Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: December 7, 2018

OUTLOOK Christmas Season is upon us and it is a fun time at the store. The staff are all eyeing stuff they would like under the tree this season but we have also not forgotten about the fishing. We just saw the first major cold spell of the season. When things are cold and clear, fishing on the rivers can be a challenge but guys are still doing well with trout on our local rivers and cold crisp days are a ton of fun on the ocean because the water is usually calm and every trip this week has seen good fishing for winter chinook and prawning. We are going to see a shift in the weather this weekend. We might even see some snow…

OUTLOOK Well, we had lots of rain this week and that meant big high water on many of our rivers. While it was high it didn’t set high water level records, which is a good thing because though high water can wash out prime spawning habitat. With the high water fishing was a challenge but all the rivers are shaping up nicely for this weekend and the weather looks great to get out before the busy Christmas season begins. The trout egg fishing should be good on all our salmon rivers for the next couple of days. Matt was out last weekend on the Squamish and though they had a few humbling moments they did find some fish. Check his report for a detailed look…

OUTLOOK The salmon season may be winding down but we have had very favourable conditions this week and there has been some very good fishing. Sometimes at this point of the season there are not many options but if you are thinking of escaping the bustle of Black Friday (no we are not doing a sale) and heading out there are a number of great options! On the Black Friday front as we said above, we are not doing a sale this weekend. As most of you know we do a MASSIVE Boxing Week sale. Save your Christmas money for then and make sure you follow the report for all updates and deals then. On the fishing front, the salmon fishing is not over on the…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: November 16, 2018

OUTLOOK Well it’s that time of year, mid November with short, dark and wet days. I hope you are reading this somewhere warm, perhaps chasing some fish on the flats or just relaxing in the sun. If not, then don’t despair, the weather this weekend looks great, with sun on both Saturday and Sunday and then as we get into next week we are back to heavy rain on Wednesday. So make the most of your weekend and get out in the sun before the rain comes back! Here are some options for you. While a lot of rivers are pretty much done for the season, or at least until winter steelhead show up, there are still some good opportunities out towards the Harrison.   For…

OUTLOOK Rivers are dropping nicely and the reports have been solid from this week! The guys have been out pulling on coho and chum across the lower mainland. The weather looks great for the weekend and we are in prime time for a number of systems. The chum numbers are low this year but more came in with the rain. It will be interesting to see the final numbers. This week we have reports on the Harrison where the high water pushed fish up into the sloughs and tributaries. Fishing was solid across the board but the main river is still quite high and makes hiking a challenge. If you have a boat is it still excellent on the main stem but if you are on foot…

OUTLOOK Big storm incoming! As we write the report the rain is coming down hard. If you are reading this on Friday night it is worth checking your weather and water levels to correlate any info in this report. We write the report on Thursday night and with a big weather event hitting the coast as we write, it is hard to be 100% accurate on anything water level related. If the weatherman is on his game we will see most of our rivers blow out with the rain predicted overnight Friday and again on Saturday. This will make fishing a challenge today and into the weekend. The silver lining is the bump of weather will bring in fresh fish to our salmon rivers and…

Squamish_River_Guided_Trips

OUTLOOK It has been an interesting week for fishing. We are getting very good weather for river fishing. This does not mean clear sky’s and hot weather. Ideally we see a cycle of consistent yet mild rain events followed by a few days of cool overcast weather. This rises the river but does not blow them out and allows fish to move in. We are hoping that this will happen this weekend and it looks promising. We have reports on the Squamish, Stave, Vedder and Harrison in the river sections. As we wrote the report last night the Squamish was in good shape but we have heard some early reports this AM that the Squamish has blown out.   That said it should come into shape soon…

OUTLOOK Both fresh and saltwater anglers continue to enjoy the warm October weather; it really doesn’t get much better than this. On the saltwater front we’ve been spending most of our time down at the docks getting the boats ready for winter but we’ve snuck out a few times to do a bit of prospecting for winter chinook and generally just enjoying trying our luck in the sunshine.   Lars has all the details in this week’s report. If you’re heading out to the rivers we’ve had solid reports coming in from the Valley all the way up to the Whistler area.   Many rivers are starting to hit their stride so check out the reports in the freshwater section below or drop in to the shop….

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 12, 2018

OUTLOOK What a fall we are having! We started with a drop in temps and a couple classic west coast storms to get the leaves turning and fish moving and it now looks like it has reverted to summer. This has made for some really cool fishing. Salmon are running strong in many of our rivers. We have reports on the Stave, Harrison and Squamish this week and all three are worth a trip. For those of you heading to the interior to do some lake fishing we are going to see some record high temperatures in the interior this week. Last week the interior lake fishing was amazing when the wind and cold didn’t put a damper on things so we are very excited…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 5, 2018

OUTLOOK The air is getting crisp, the leaves have a hint of colour and the salmon have hit the rivers! Fall salmon season is here! Yes, yes we know many of you have been hooking a bunch of fish already but the best is yet to come. If you have been holding off until there are more fish, now is the time to get out. We have had good reports from the Vedder and Stave. The Squamish has been dirty from the rain and snowmelt but we expect with the crisp weather to hear good reports this week. We are also hearing a few reports off the Harrison/Chehalis. This system is sometimes a little behind but it is worth a trip if you are thinking…
