OUTLOOK  We hope everyone is having a great Holiday Season! The fishing has been a little challenging with cold weather and we expect this to continue with more cold weather coming this weekend, but the silver lining is we think it will warm up for Boxing Week and there could be some excellent conditions to get out if you have the time off.   We only have a couple articles this week but they are good ones. Eric has a steelhead fly tying article to share with everyone and Taylor goes over some key water level numbers for the Chilliwack River so you can plan your steelhead season. Matt also tunes in with a big video report where he shares some updates on prawning, some cool…

OUTLOOK  Another week of relatively chilly weather has kept many folks off the water but we managed to get out on the saltwater for a few days this past week.   So be sure to have a read of this week’s saltwater report!  On the freshwater front, we have a look at the upcoming forecast and opportunities to get out.  Things are looking a bit cold but it’s always worth getting out to scout for the upcoming season.    In other news, we are officially kicking off our annual Best of the Year Fishing Photo Contest! We have all the details below and we are excited to share the coolest photos from special fishing moments of 2022.   Last, but not least, we do not have a video…

OUTLOOK  Winter showed up in a big way this week and we don’t blame anyone for taking a little break from fishing. This week we are doing the same when it comes to specific fisheries reports but we do have an overview on what is happening right now and an outlook for fishing over the next month. Even though winter can be a challenge to get out, if you are paying attention to the weather and time your trips correctly there are still great options to get out. Unfortunately, as of right now we don’t see any of those windows in the 14-day trend but as we know things can change quickly when it comes to the weather so be sure to keep an eye…

OUTLOOK  This week we are seeing many of the salmon fisheries wind down but, surprisingly, there are still good reports coming in.  If you want one last kick at the can, be sure to take a look at this week’s Freshwater Fishing Reports section where we have updates on the Chilliwack and north side systems. We also have a Squamish report this week where we are seeing low clear conditions but, some solid fishing in the less than ideal water conditions. With some rain in the forecast, it might be a good weekend to hunt for egg eaters.   Last, but not least, we have a cool feature on game changer style patterns. Wiley has been playing around with them and has a learned a thing…

OUTLOOK  We are all on weather watch right now. The rivers are very low but seasonally warm daytime temperatures have made for ok fishing. We expect this trend to continue over the weekend. The low clear water makes fish picky, but the warmer temperatures have meant that their metabolisms haven’t shut down and they are still actively biting. The general trend of fish being “late” continues to hold true and systems that historically have been winding down this time of year continue to fish pretty decent for the conditions.   If the weatherman is on his game this will all change next week. There is a big storm in the forecast. This has been an ongoing trend over the last few years where big storms in…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: November 11, 2022

It’s Friday, Remembrance Day and the store is closed in honour of our armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. If you are going fishing this weekend here is an abbreviated report for fresh and salt. The weather is looking good for fishing this weekend for the fresh and the salt.  Highs of 8 C and a mix of sun and cloud.  Certainly, beats the temperatures in Merritt on Thursday, which were as low as -21 C!  With the lack of rain in the forecast, rivers levels are stable and most rivers are still fishing well for a mix of coho and chum on fly or gear.  Sturgeon fishing has also been good as the fish are feeding heavily right now, bulking…

OUTLOOK  Winter Is Coming! After a historically warm October, November is going in the other direction. We have had snow on many of the higher elevations and as we write the report. On Thursday, it is snowed in Squamish.   On the fishing front, things have been good right across the Lower Mainland fisheries. The late trend to our salmon runs this season has made for good fishing over the last week when the weather and river levels have cooperated, but temperatures are going to drop dramatically over the next week. Right now, the weekend looks like a good bet to get out but, as we push into next week, things are going to get challenging.   This week we have updates on the North side rivers…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 28, 2022

OUTLOOK Well that much needed rain has arrived.  It looks like we have a bit of a break in between systems today but there is another large system on the way this weekend and into early next week in most areas.   The rain we had this week wasn’t enough to make a big difference to our major systems.    We’ll be keeping a keen eye on the levels over the weekend and hopefully it will bring the rivers up but not blow the systems out.    Time will tell.    As always when there is a large system coming in we recommend you keep a keen eye on the weather and the river levels to ensure it is safe to head out. In this week’s report we have…

OUTLOOK  We finally have some more typical Vancouver fall weather (aka rain) on the horizon and we can sure use the water.  The question is how much water will actually come?  Will it be enough to get river levels up?  Will it be perfect and blow out the rivers but come into shape quickly?  Or, will it be way too much water?  The weather man has been all over the map when it comes to the amount of rain coming but it’s a pretty safe bet that rain is on the way.   In this week’s report, we look at what conceivably will happen to our major systems and how to be prepared.  Jason also tunes in for another interior lake fishing report.  He has been…
