The Cuba Report, 2012

This March the Pacific Angler Team travelled to the remote Northeast coast of Cuba to the world class flats destination of Cayo Cruz.  Here is the report on a truly fabulous trip. Paradise in the Middle of No-Where Cayo Cruz is located Southeast of Cayo Coco in the remote province of Camaguey. It is a stunning yet rugged land and only in the last 3-4 years have tourists (mostly fisherman) been traveling to the area. You will hear many people say that when you travel to Cuba it is like stepping into a time machine and rolling back the dial 50 years. In Cayo Cruz you will need to add a few more decades to the dial. Horse drawn carts are as common as cars,  …

So Your Going Warm Saltwater Fly Fishing…

…for the first time?!  This past March I had the opportunity to head down to Mexico and experience warm saltwater fly fishing for the very first time.  The name of the game was permit, bonefish and tarpon. Luckily my fishing partner is a veteran warm saltwater fly fisherman.  He has spent years travelling to world famous destinations such as Christmas Islands, Belize and all over Mexico. One night about three weeks before our trip he called me, “I think we are terribly unprepared.  I have only tied three dozen crab patterns, and have been out casting just two nights a week”.  Having never been down south I honestly had no clue what it meant to be prepared for this type of fishing. My very first…

West Coast Fishing Club, Panama

Over the years we’ve sent a lot of our customers to the West Coast Fishing Club (WCFC) for epic salmon fishing in Haida Gwaii Islands.  The WCFC does it right by offering the ultimate service from the point you book your trip to the moment you touch ground back in Vancouver. That’s why when we heard they now have an operation in Panama we wanted to let you know.  From what we’ve heard and seen the fishing is epic.  I’ve posted the WCFC’s latest highlight reel for you to view.  The group hooks into 7 sailfish in a row… Another Day at the Office from Tobey Nemeth on Vimeo. Panama really gets me going as it is a world class billfish fishery and truly has the…

The Pacific Angler Team Tackles Roosters, Dorado and Jacks

In Puerto Vallarta Puerto Vallarta is known as a Mexican tourist hot spot – With streets filled with tacky souvenir shops, great beaches and all the amenities to cater to droves of vacationers some overlook Puerto Vallarta (PV) as a world class fishing destination. This November Jason and Matt were invited on a family vacation in Puerto Vallarta (PV).  It was planned as a non-fishing vacation but after a little research the boys realized November was a good time for roosters and the planning began. Matt feverously tied sardina patterns and Jason put his vast guide contact list to work.  It turned out that one of Jason’s old salmon guiding buddies, Josh Temple, has an exclusive world class operation call Prime Time Adventures in Punta…

Cuba and Mexico 2012 for Bones, Permit, Tarpon

It’s that time of year when the days are dark, cold, and dreary here in Vancouver.  Don’t get depressed, get excited like we do!  Why do we get excited?  Well… it just means we are that much closer to our warm water season of catching bones, permit, and tarpon on the the flats. Morry with a nice sized bonefish from last years trip to Cuba! This year we have two great trips we are offering.  The first is a trip to Cayo Romano, Cuba for some amazing fishing on the flats for bones, permit, and tarpon.  Matt Sharp hosted a group of Pacific Angler Expeditions clients last year, and we can’t wait to head back down this year!  For detailed information on this trip click…
