What’s New Wednesday, Redington Voyant and Predator Fly Rods

Pacific Angler just got a fresh shipment of Sage and Redington fly rods with some of their new 2012 products.  The two standouts for us were the Redington Voyant and Predator fly rods.  Here is a quick review for these two new and exciting line-ups! The Voyant This rod has a smooth, fast-action which is user friendly for people new to the sport but advanced enough for the more aggressive and experienced casters.  I see this being a great trout rod for BC’s stillwater fishing as well as a great stream rod for rainbows, cutthroat, and char. Features: Fast action Fast action Alignment dots for easy rod set up Half-wells grip (3wt – 6wt) Full-wells models (7wt – 10wt) Durable anodized aluminum and wood reel…

What’s New Wednesday, The Wish List

If you are a fishermen/women then you are probably tired of getting that cheesy fishing related present for christmas.  Trust us, as life long fishermen, we feel your pain.  That is why we created the Pacific Angler “Wish List” program. What is the Pacific Angler “Wish List” program? Just think of a gift registry but for fishing.  This is a simple and easy way to let your loved ones know exactly what you would like for the holidays. How does the Wish List program work? There are 3 easy and quick steps: 1.) Write down your wish list and give it to the friendly staff at Pacific Angler (232 West Broadway), over the phone (604-872-2204); or by email (jtonelli@pacificangler.ca); 2.) Inform your loved ones that…

What’s New Wednesday, The ONE

Jason and Matt Test Drive Sage’s New Rod in Puerto Vallarta! Jason and Matt traveled down to Puerto Vallarta this November for a family, non-fishing vacation.  “Matt and Jason on a non-fishing vacation??”,  Ya that was what everyone at the shop said.  It was no surprise to find Matt tying rooster flies while Jason put his vast fishing guide contact list to work preparing for the “non fishing vacation”. The research paid off.  We have all the information you will need to plan your next trip to the area…whether it is a fishing or non-fishing vacation. But this post is about the rod. A rod that we can only describe as the “ONE” With an awesome black on gold color scheme, short sharp edged cork and a clean…

Course(s) for December: Intruder Night

Pacific Angler will be doing one course for December…and it is a crowd pleaser!  Read below for all of the details and cool video of Dimitri tying his “Ghost Prawn”. Intruder Night with Dimitri Roussanidis On Wednesday December 7th, Dimitri will be demonstrating techniques used to tie the large flies known as “Intruders”, famous for seducing steelhead on the west coast.  Once you have learned and perfected these techniques you will be able to create unique flies from your own vice. Dimitri will be your instructor for the night.  An avid angler since he can remember, Dimitri has become a stand-out talent in the steelhead angling world.  With his love for winter run steelhead, Dimitri gravitated towards tying the intruder fly which was developed and…

What’s New Wednesday, Simms WS Flex Glove

Over the years the one thing that I’ve always had a hard time finding is a good glove for winter steelheading.  Most gloves are bulky and cause your running line to slip when you want to shoot the line.  And once they get wet they stay wet for the entire day.  The half-fingers work well but leave the tips of your fingers frozen usually mid-day.  I remember fishing on the Bulkley two seasons ago and having to thaw out my hands after every run. However, when I saw the Simms Windstopper Flex Glove there was hope.  Over this past cold stint in Vancouver a good friend and I had the opportunity to field tested the gloves.  The air temperature was -8 degrees celsius without the…

2012 Full Dress Calendar…simply AMAZING!!!

There are not too many things that come by Pacific Angler that wow all of the guys working in the store.  So when we saw this amazing 2012 calendar of beautiful full dressed salmon flies we simply stopped what we were doing and were magnetized.  The calendar is just stunning!!!  The fact that we are actually blogging about a FISHING CALENDAR shows how impressed we are… There are 12 classic salmon flies displayed, 1 for each month of the calendar year.  The flies are of the “Traherne Collection” dressed by world renowned fly tier Dariusz Ptak. Aside from the amazing flies the actual calendar is aesthetically pleasing, perfect for the your office or at home.  The calendar is large measuring 50*42 cm and is of…

SAGE Z-AXIS RODS 40% OFF!

We are selling our remaining Sage Z-Axis rods at 40% off US MSRP!  This is a great deal for an amazing rod.  These rods have been replaced by the Sage One, but don’t let that fool you, these are one of the smoothest fast action rods I have ever fished.  By that I mean they are not only a pleasure to cast but to hook and play fish with as well.  There are many rods on the market that are light weight and fast action, but not nearly as many that “fish well”  I find that most of today’s fast action rods feel more like a carbon fiber broom handle than a fishing rod .  What we like so much about the Z-Axis is its…

What’s New Wednesday: Winter Steelhead and Mad River

The winter steelhead season is approaching quickly this year.  Only a few weeks away and Pacific Angler is busy stocking our shelves with new, as well as the old faithful lures and baits. We are adding a new line of rubber worms and rubber eggs to the store.  Mad River Manufacturing is the company and they have a huge selection of baits to choose from.  Mad River is a company out of California, and have made a name for themselves in the Pacific Northwest.  I was turned onto these baits last steelhead season after testing these worms and eggs with a lot of success.  I had to bring them into the store! New Pacific Angler product tested in the field last winter. The worms are…

What’s New Wednesday (On Thursday)

We will be having a weekly feature called “What’s New Wednesday”  where we tell you all about cool new stuff at Pacific Angler.  We were so busy yesterday in the shop with customers and putting out all this new stuff out, I didn’t have time to get to the blog, so we are a day late this week! All sorts of new fly tying materials for the winter tying season ahead. This is just a fraction of the materials Jason, Ron, Andre, and Dave were putting out yesterday (Matt was guiding and Dimitri was fishing) as we just received two huge orders, one from Hareline and one from Fish Hunter.  The walls are stacked with Flashabou, Krystal Flash, Craft Fur, Marabou, UV Polar Chenille, Unique…
