Friday Fishing Report: January 24th, 2014

Outlook: Jason tried 2x in the last week for a day of local heli-fishing and both days could not get more than 5min from the airport due to heavy fog banks hanging around the Fraser Valley.  Makes for gorgeous pictures but not so much for heli-fishing. The GVRD weather forecast including Squamish is calling for moderate temperatures for this time of year with little rain in the next 7-10 days.  The Georgia Strait weather is great for this coming weekend!  Winds from 5-15km SE so with the winter chinook fishing getting better and better, do not hesitate to fill that thermos with coffee+baileys and get out there for some amazing fishing and very little boat traffic. Being that we are constantly selling out of our…

Friday Fishing Report: Jan 17th, 2014

Outlook: The weather coming up is good to amazing!  When I went online to check the forecast I did a “double-take” as I was not used to seeing so many days with little sun icon as the main icon! More fish have been pushing in to your local favorite rivers so get out there and get a tight line! If you are heading out onto the salt chasing winter chinook, prawning and crabbing you will also be treated to some great weather.  As always with the ocean, check the Strait of Georgia Marine Forecast before you go as those conditions can change quickly. Retail Highlights With the steelhead season upon us and bull trout fishing across lower mainland in full swing we loaded up the…

HAPPY NEW YEAR Fishing Report: JAN 3rd, 2014

Outlook: If you are cycling to work this week, keep breaking out those water wings and stay covered head to toe.  However, this weekend looks to bring a break in the rain for local Vancouverites.  The Vancouver weather forecast will be holding true up in Squamish as well.  This could lend itself to some great fishing opportunities while the snowlevels are low and the roads to your favorite egging runs are still accessible. There is a NW gale warning in the Georgia Strait on Friday and Saturday while Sunday and Monday look to have calmer winds.  Make sure to check your latest marine forecasts if you are heading out after winter chinook or crabbing and prawning. Now is the time to be getting your gear…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: Dec 6, 2013

Outlook: Brrrrrrr.  I’m not sure if I put enough “r’s” in there, but its been a cold week for Vancouverites while I hear the transplants from TO are still referring to this “cold front” as warm and balmy and wondering if they will ever need a coat.  Hmmm, could this be why they move from TO to the West Coast? Should you be wondering about the forecast for the weekend, allow me to sum it up four short yet definitive words “wind chill minus 17”.  I, for one will be looking to avoid that wind and chill combination!  I have never been fond of chipping ice off my guides in between casts. If its too cold to be on the water then its perfect to…

Friday Fishing Report: Nov 29th, 2013

Outlook: This weekend looks like we will get some of that rain that we need to bump up river levels.  The fishing has now rounded that corner on most the rivers where the “end” to the epic fishing of 2013 is coming to a close for those of you chasing salmon. The 14day Squamish Weather Forecast is looking good with a mixed bag this weekend and then some sun again next week.  The Vancouver Forecast is very similar and it looks like on Monday even Vancouver will potentially get a slight flurry of snow! Winter chinook will soon be cruising the Vancouver Harbor and we will be out there chasing them!  We are getting excited about how close we are to opening this fishery up…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Nov 15th, 2013

Outlook: November continues to provide the lower mainland river systems with rain that we lacked in October.  Still feels weird to say that Vancouver LACKED rain in October.  The fact that the rains have taken till mid-November to move water levels up to their peak levels for fishing and moving towards blowing out here and there has meant that fishing continues to be good to GREAT! Fresh fish continue to pour into the Squamish, Harrison, Vedder, Stave and Fraser tributaries etc. The barometer continues to be relatively steady even in Squamish where the airport reports consistent daily temperatures with a low of 1-3deg and highs of 6-9deg daily.  Intermittent rain showers are keeping water levels and clarity where they should be! The 2014 salmon season promises…

Pacific Angler Fishing Report: Nov 8th, 2013

Outlook: Well, October was amazing and now November is reminding us daily that yes, we still live in Vancouver and our winters can be cold and more than a little wet.  I would post a weather forecast, however all you need to do is walk around outside the last couple days and this weather is here to stay for the next couple weeks!  Monday does plan on teasing us with a few rays of sunshine mixed in with some clouds but that’s about it! As the season has changed you will notice that Starbucks is now decked out in all their Christmas decorations already!  Yes, that time of year is coming faster than Rudolph’s red nose after a party with the elves! We are gladly…
