Tip of the Month

  • Fly Tip: Take into account the angle of sun. This means two things, first, take notice of the direction in which your shadow is being cast as this can easily spook wary fish. Second, do not always expect a fish to bite a fly while looking up into the sun as they don’t have eyelids. This is why we as anglers often prefer overcast days.
  • Gear Tip: Hitting bites on the downriggers...The most important thing to do after seeing a bite on the downriggers is to wind your rod down tight and pick up as much slack line as possible before you set the hook. This does two things: first, it makes for a much firmer hook set and, second, once you hook that fish you have minimal slack line with which that fish can spit the hook!
