Green Space
This short article features a British Columbia grown initiative that is working to inspire behaviour change for the benefit of salmon through a number of projects and a wide variety of partnerships. Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) is a non-profit charity organization founded in 1989 that in the last 20 years, through several programmes, has raised funds and directed funds to grassroots, volunteer and community driven projects focused on the conservation and recovery of Pacific salmon. PSF supports research and science, and integrates this knowledge into programme plans at the community and watershed level.
In 2006, PSF embarked on the Fraser Salmon & Watersheds programme. This is a jointly managed programme between Fraser Basin Council and PSF and is a well funded programme with support from the Pacific Salmon Endowment Fund Society, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and several private sector partners. This programme is essentially a 5 year business plan developed to support programmes that inspire and support changes in human behaviour for the benefit of salmon and watersheds.
The Pacific Salmon Foundation hosts dinners and auctions, which are a great opportunity for salmon enthusiasts and stakeholders to show their support for B.C.'s Pacific Salmon.
