Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 13, 2017

OUTLOOK BOOM – The first big storm of the season smashed the coast yesterday and though it was not long lasting and probably sucked for you anglers who got stuck out in the rain, it could mean good things for fishing to come. There is a little concern when looking at the 14 day forecast. For Squamish and the Chilliwack areas the rain looks like it is here to stay and though the rivers need water, when looking at the next 10 days it might be too much rain. October and early November might see high water issues but only time will tell. One thing is certain the rain will mean more water and more water will mean moving fresh fish hitting our salmon rivers….

OUTLOOK Well it looks like things are cooling down a bit. The saltwater fishery has been slower this week probably due to the big tides but we have been finding fish every day. With better tides and no real rain in short term forecast the Capilano and the mouth of the Fraser could provide some epic late season fishing this coming week. We should start seeing pods of coho and chum hitting the mouth of the Fraser as well as pods of late chinook hitting the river. The river fishing has been good but not without its challenges. Again with no major rain in the short term forecast the Vedder should continue to produce but be challenging because of low clear water. We do not…

OUTLOOK We have a good bump of rain coming this weekend. This is good timing for the freshwater fisheries. You will want to check out all of the river reports but in short the Capilano should bump up and the fishing will turn on. The Squamish will colour up even more and might make for more challenging fishing on the main stem but the egging should turn on where the pinks are spawning. The big winner this weekend will probably be the Vedder. It is low right now but we heard some great reports mid week in the morning on the lower river and it should bump up and allow the bulk of the fish to push into the mid and upper river. The rain…

OUTLOOK It feels as though fall is here and with it salmon season is ramping up. It looks as though we will see solid weather for the rest of the week and then some possible rain early next week. This is all good news for fishing. On the saltwater front good waves of chinook are pushing into the Fraser mouth and Capilano every day. Some tides have been challenging but pretty much every day has turned on at some point and our boats as well as a number of customers have been putting up good numbers. For those of you who enjoy fishing the Cap be sure to read Jason’s report below and provide your input to the Port of Vancouver in their ongoing consultation…

OUTLOOK It is “go time” for the fall season! Weather looks like it is shaping up well and it is perfectly timed for our Fall Salmon Sale this weekend! Temperatures are dropping but still staying nice for hitting the water and we have some rain in the forecast for Sunday. This should really get a number of our local salmon rivers going. A bump in water levels from the rain will bring fish in the different systems. Oh and they have opened the Fraser for chinook bar fishing as well as catch and release pink fishing! All good news! We have lots of anglers heading up north to the Skeena country over the next few weeks. With this in mind we re-released an older video…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: September 8, 2017

OUTLOOK All week we have seen heavy smog across the lower mainland. It’s been a bit depressing but with some rain in the forecast last night and today we are hoping it clears out the smoke. Minus the smoke, we have seen a good week on a couple of our fisheries. The boys hit the Skagit this last week. There were lots of actively feeding trout and though they were a little picky, the guys caught quite a few fish. Check out the Skagit report for details on what they saw. Saltwater Salmon fishing has been up and down. We had good reports early in the week but whales moved through yesterday and the fishing slow considerably off the mouth of the Fraser. We did…

OUTLOOK Well at least on the calendar, summer is coming to an end and with it we are into the high point of a number of our fishing seasons. On the weather front they are have been predicting a warm fall. In the short term forecast it looks as though they have it right, epic sun and high temps in the forecast. We are hearing about some great fishing on the saltwater front with some really big fish rolling through the mouth of the Fraser. Though some anglers have had to put in some time to find the fish, overall the fishing has been excellent. Matt and the staff are hitting the Skagit this weekend and the reports leading up to the weekend have been…

OUTLOOK Great fishing and more great weather is in the forecast this week! Pink salmon fishing reports have been constantly coming in from the Squamish, Indian Arm and the beach. We would like to see higher numbers and we are not seeing the spectacular fishing that previous cycles have brought but we are still hearing great reports and it is worth getting out. Alex as well as a number of the staff have been getting out and we have a detailed report from Alex below. The big news has been the saltwater. We had a successful derby last weekend and though we had some wind to deal with on Saturday morning things settled out and fishing was very good with lots of fish getting called…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: August 18, 2017

OUTLOOK It is derby weekend and it looks like the fishing is turning on just in time! We have had some solid reports off the Bell Buoy and around the corner down south. With boats out all week there have been days where we had to work hard to get some fish but there have also been some moments of brilliance. Almost all boats are coming home with big chinook, pinks and the odd hatchery coho in the mix. The weather looks good for the weekend. We are going to see some northwest winds Saturday, Sunday and Monday but it shouldn’t be anything we can’t handle. There are big low tides mid morning that should be nice for anglers fishing from the beach and then…

OUTLOOK Summer fishing is in full swing. We are going to see another beautiful weekend minus the haze. There might see some wind from the southeast over the weekend and it could clear things up a bit as well as bring more moisture. We are not seeing any real rain in the short term forecast but when we look at the 14-day trend there might be a little rain next weekend. This could be good for a number of fisheries and help dampen the smog. As always with it is hard to rely on a 10 day forecast and we can expect things to change. For this week we have seen some solid pink salmon reports. There have been some moments of brilliant fishing mixed…
