Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 21, 2016

OUTLOOK The weatherman owes us a beer! He was off the mark last week. There are more than a few of us who changed our fishing plans last weekend based on the forecast of storms. That said when a major, legitimately dangerous, storm doesn’t materialize, we probably shouldn’t be complaining. We still got enough rain that most rivers did blow out but there were a few spots that stayed fishable and a number of places came back into shape faster than we expected. This proves the old saying you don’t know until you go. This weekend we are once again facing a wet weather forecast. On paper it is dryer and colder than last week so we’re hoping that things will stay in relatively good…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 14, 2016

OUTLOOK Batten down the hatches! Earlier in the week we were watching the weather report and things looked downright scary. The weatherman has dialed back his predictions on the amount of rain coming but it is still one of the biggest storms we have seen early on in salmon season. In the short term we have very few options for guys who want to go out fishing this weekend. With 100+mm forecasted Friday, Saturday and Sunday it is safe to say all of our river will be too high to fish and anyone braving the elements should be very mindful of rising water levels. Safety-first boys and girls! Be aware of where you are wading, be smart and be careful. Better yet come down to…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 7, 2016

OUTLOOK Wet weather is coming – if the weatherman is on his game we are going to get drenched over the weekend. There is rain today but the big dump will come Saturday and Sunday so get that rain gear ready! This is going to shuffle things up for all the salmon river fishing. For most rivers the rain will be good. That said we expect all the rivers to blow out by Sunday and be too dirty to fish, but before they blow out and when they come back into shape fishing should be good. The change in water levels will move fish around and bring more fish into the systems. Check out all the river reports below and also don’t miss Sam’s feature…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: September 30, 2016

OUTLOOK The leaves are turning, temps are dropping and salmon fishing is picking up everywhere. The Vedder River started fishing well this week and we heard a number of good reports. Alex was out at the river and Sam hit the water yesterday. Check out the Vedder report for more details Saltwater has been good. Sandheads fished well on Saturday last weekend. Matt was out on Sunday and they had a good flurry of action in the morning with chum, coho and chinook all being caught but then the whales came through and killed the fishing. We have had very good Capilano/North Shore reports from the last couple days. Eddie had a good trip yesterday so it is well worth the trip out to Sand…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: September 23, 2016

OUTLOOK Fall is one of our favorite times of year to fish. There are tons of options. We are hitting the “prime time” for a number of fisheries and one of the biggest fisheries for the lower mainland, fall salmon river fishing, is just ramping up. Long story short, get out fishing. This week we recommend looking at saltwater in a big way. We may not have had a gangbuster saltwater salmon fishing season but the Capilano River mouth is fishing really well and though the mouth of the Fraser has been hit and miss we have high potential for great fishing. There are about 2-4 weeks left in the fishery and the best could be yet to come. Check out Jason’s Saltwater Report for…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: August 26, 2016

OUTLOOK It has been an interesting summer for fisherman. River closures, late or low number salmon runs, mixed in with some pretty stable weather and some good lake fishing and river trout fishing. We try to always be optimistic with our report but some weeks it can be hard. This is not one of them. I think our saltwater salmon fishing is about to really pick up. We have had some good to great fishing this week and though some wind and whales have been pushing the fish around we expect things to keep get better as more and more fish start to stage off the mouth of the Fraser. Jason has a massive report and he is sharing a ton of information on how…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: August 19, 2016

OUTLOOK Last year the Vancouver Chinook Classic faced some extremely harrowing weather. With any luck we paid our dues and this year the weather looks amazing! Sun, heat and relatively low wind is in the forecast and we think the fish will also cooperate.  We had some of the first sold reports from the bell buoy and around the corner in our charters this week and we expect it to continue into the weekend. If you are not signed up for the tournament it is not too late. We have set a record for participants this year but you can still call in a late entry.  Tournament details are here. If you are not in the tournament it should still be a good weekend to…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: August 12, 2016

OUTLOOK Well it was an interesting week in the fishing world. DFO has decided to close the Fraser both in the tidal and non tidal portions of the river. They cited low sockeye number as the reason and also commended sports anglers for using selective fishing techniques. Meaning that we as a community have done a good job of not bottom bouncing but unfortunately it was not enough. There are a number of opinions and theories as to the reasoning behind the closure and as usual with the Friday Fishing Report we are going to avoid getting into political debate. That said it is unfortunate and a cause for concern. This will obviously affect all anglers going bar fishing the Fraser and saltwater anglers will…
