Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: January 22, 2016

Outlook This week was a major week for weather. We saw big dumps of rain and in some cases snow. Yesterday saw the largest amount of precipitation and most of our rivers blew out. Mixed in with the classic Vancouver weather we had some windows of great fishing. Before the river went out we had solid Vedder – Chilliwack river fishing reports. Float fisherman and fly fisherman were stacking up numbers and our inbox is loaded with great steelhead pictures. On Thursday the river was too coloured to fish effectively but the weather for the weekend looks good and she should come into shape. Check out the report Dimitri put together below and if you have been on the fence about booking a guided trip…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: January 15 , 2016

OUTLOOK Rain is coming! This is exactly what we have been waiting for on the river fishing front. Rivers will rise, steelhead will come in and resident fish will be feeding! The only questions that remain are how much rain and when will it come? If the weather man is not lying Squamish is going to get hit hard later today, Saturday and Sunday. Vancouver and the valley will hold off until Saturday and not get as much rain but 20mm is in the forecast for Saturday. What will this do to the rivers? In the short term the Squamish (20mm +) may blow the river out but it will be interesting. The river is at the 2 year low right now and depending on…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: January 8 , 2016

VANCOUVER FISHING OUTLOOK Though conditions were cold and clear we had some solid reports from the Vedder and the harbor winter chinook fishery this week. The boys were out on the saltwater and found some nice winter chinook. Check out the Vancouver Saltwater Report for more details. The Vedder was a little surprising. We assumed with the low conditions that we wouldn’t hear of many steelhead reports but all things considered a number of anglers caught their first fish of the season and it bodes well for the upcoming season. Check out Sam’s Vedder River report in the river section. As predicted the Squamish was low and clear and a challenge for most anglers but like we said last week, the longer the cold spell…

Pacific Angler Fishing Report: December 11, 2015

OUTLOOK After some rain this weekend, things look to be cooling down and drying up for next week.   That means its time to keep a close eye on river levels and get out mid-week to chase down some early winter steelhead out in the valley or trout up in Squamish. While there have been limited opportunities to get out on the water with the string of wet winter storms, we have had a few reports of early steelhead being caught on the Chilliwack. So be sure your gear is ready for when the river comes into shape this week.   In Squamish the rain of the past week has brought the river to an unfishable level but again it too should be fishing well once the…

OUTLOOK It looks like we are welcoming December in with another round of rain. It is predicted to be a wet weekend, which may thwart plans for anyone looking to head out to the valley to scout some early steelhead spots or up to the Squamish area to work on their egging techniques. This weekend would be a great weekend to get your Christmas shopping done and some time getting winter steelhead gear lined up and ready to go once the rivers come back into shape.     Or stay dry and check out our just released 2016 Course Schedule and pick out what courses you want to sign up for in 2016. For saltwater fisherman, December marks the time we start go get excited about one…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: November 27, 2015

OUTLOOK Well it has been a busy week here in the shop and out on the water. This week was full of great industry events, ranging from our Pacific Angler Steelhead Fly Tying Jam Session, the Steelhead Society of BC’s annual pub night, and tonight’s Sport Fishing Institute of BC’s Big Splash Gala. What a great week to connect with friends and fellow anglers and support some awesome causes in our industry! Out on the water we have been enjoying the cool, dry weather and have made up for lost time earlier in the season. While salmon season is wrapping up we have landed a few nice coho throughout the week on the Squamish and bull and rainbow trout fishing has been productive on both…

OUTLOOK We are pleased to report that there are no major storm systems in the upcoming forecast! The weekend is forecasted to be sunny, clear and cold. This should help bring all the rivers into shape fast, which will be welcomed by many anglers after a season of repeated high water events. While a few rivers are winding down for fall salmon season, others like the Squamish continue to be strong and egg fishing for bull or rainbow trout is starting to heat up. As we look to cooler, dryer weather its time focus your techniques for low, clear water. We’ve got a few tips for you in the local river reports below. Now is also a great time to start thinking about steelhead season….
