Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 24, 2015

Outlook With the warm weather we had earlier this week those looking to fish the Squamish had to battle a rising river and limited visibility. We’re hoping some cooler temperatures and a bit of rain will bring things back into shape and we can get some more days out on the water before spring freshet. The warm weather has helped those looking to fish the interior lakes as it brought the temperatures up a bit more. Read on below for a detailed report and don’t forget to check out all our lake fishing courses coming up in the next two weeks! Saltwater fishing has continued to be good. We’ve seen waves of chinook moving in and out which led to a few slow days on…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 17, 2015

OUTLOOK Last week’s rain didn’t materialize as predicted but we had some windy days out in the valley and in the harbour. That said we had some spectacular fishing throughout the week and hoping it will continue this coming week. There is nothing but sun in the forecast so now is the time to get out fishing. These warm temperatures are good for the immediate future. Steelhead will be pushing in, salmon fry will be out and active and all of our local fisheries should be excellent. If this warmth continues well into next week we could be faced with heavy snow melt but for now, things are looking good. The great season of winter chinook fishing we had is rolling right into a great…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 10, 2015

OUTLOOK We’ve enjoyed a beautiful stretch of sunshine and cool nights, which has lead to some great fishing this past week.     The sun can’t last forever and we have some rain forecasted for this weekend and early next. This rain will be welcomed by many river fishermen as most of rivers are low and clear and a bit of rain (not too much) will hopefully bring in some fresh fish! On the salt the “Hump” seems to have turned on early and there has been some solid fishing there all week.   Further up Howe Sounds continues to produce as well. April brings along a great offering of courses and events. Read on below for all of the details as well as an important Fisheries and…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 3rd, 2015

Outlook We’re seeing a lot more sun and way less rain in this week’s forecast so we’re getting ready to get out on the water!   April marks a busy month with all types of anglers out chasing fish and enjoying the early spring weather. Most of the rivers have come or are coming back into shape after last weekends deluge. Hopefully the bit of rain predicted doesn’t blow them out again.   Lake fishing has arrived early with a number of the interior lakes fishing weeks earlier than normal. Saltwater fishing in the harbour seems to have picked up a bit this week but we are still finding the bigger fisher are further afield in Howe Sound and South Bowen. April is one of our busiest…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 27, 2015

OUTLOOK It looks like March is going to come to a wet close. We battled the wet, chilly weather  hit the water throughout the past week. It was a struggle on many fronts but there were  some hard won successes and a few fish landed. Saltwater anglers are seeing the consistent winter chinook fishing continue and we’ve even had a few reports of some early fish arriving off the “Hump”. We’ve got the full report for you below in the saltwater section. If you’re looking to escape the rain predicted, read on for our course listing below or come visit the Pacific Angler F3T Pop Up Shop at this Saturday’s Fly Fishing Film Tour. Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 20, 2015

OUTLOOK Well the major storm predicted for last week didn’t materialize with full force but we did see a bit of rain that blew out the rivers in the valley and Squamish for a short period.   With the rain came a nice bump of fresh fish. We’re watching the rain fall right now and hoping it won’t arrive as predicted for this weekend and blow out the rivers. If you’re thinking lake fishing, you’re not alone!   With our mild winter and early arrival of spring we’re seeing lakes ice of early. Read on in the Stillwater section below for our first lake reports of the season. If it’s winter chinook you’re after, fishing continues to be solid. While things are slow in the Vancouver Harbour…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 6, 2015

OUTLOOK We’re welcoming March in with another week of sun. There are a few showers forecasted in the early part of next week, which will bring the rivers up and hopefully another bump of fish with it. Cutthroat season is almost upon us and there is no better way to get ready for it then by learning the ins and outs of this fishery in a course. We have a couple of spots left in our Fly Fishing for Cutthroat and Tying Epoxy Fly Patterns courses. Don’t miss out! Saltwater remains productive and we landed some nice winter chinook on trips this week. Adaptability continues to be the name of the game. Putting in the hours on the water, moving around and hitting a few…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: February 20, 2015

OUTLOOK Sun and steady temperature is the story for most of this week. While it is still warmer than seasonal averages it is a touch cooler than we have seen in the last few weeks. This should mean some changes for a number of our river fisheries. Things look good for this weekend but we expect water levels to drop next week and we could see some of the first low and clear conditions of the season. Take a look at the river reports for more details on how to tackle these changes. Also look out for Andre’s first cutthroat update of the season! It is still early for cutthroat fishing but we are already seeing the odd fry hiding in the rocks and if…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: February 13, 2015

OUTLOOK We are excited not to be reporting about a major rainfall event! A cold dry spell of weather is coming and it should make for some great fishing opportunities. We have rain today and tomorrow but from Sunday onwards it looks as though things will clear up and temperatures will drop. When we say drop, it is relative, as this is one of the warmest winters on record. Temperatures for next week are still forecasted to be a few degrees above the seasonal average and this should be perfect winter fishing weather. In short river fishing should be awesome as all our rivers are coming back into shape from last week’s major rain. Check out our freshwater reports below fore more detail. Saltwater fishermen…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: February 6, 2015

OUTLOOK Well it looks like we are in for some wet weather for the foreseeable future. There are heavy rainfall warnings for Squamish, Vancouver, and the Lower Mainland. It looks like we will be getting 40-50 mm on Saturday and Sunday so this should blow out all the rivers from the Squamish all the way up to the Vedder. Out on the ocean there will be SE winds of 10-20 knots, so if you are heading out on your boat this weekend it will be wet and windy so bring out the rain gear. Once the rivers drop later next week, fishing should be good as this high water will bring lots of fresh fish in and the high dirty water will give the fish…
