Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report – January 30, 2015

OUTLOOK The river levels are dropping nicely, there is no major rain in the forecast, winds will be good in the harbor and with only a little drizzle hitting the valley, the weekend should be good for both river fisherman and ocean anglers! In the report this week we have some great info on the winter chinook scene. The guys were out on the water in short sleeves on Wednesday and the fishing was solid. Our river guides have been watching river levels closely and are excited about the next week. If you were thinking about a guided trip on the Vedder take a look at the report and give us a call. It should be good for the next few weeks. Don’t miss our…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report – January 23, 2015

OUTLOOK More warm rain in the forecast!? If you look back at the last three months of reports it is almost entertaining to see how many times we have reported rainfall warnings and for the most part they have come with warm temperatures. This report is not going to break the trend. It looks like another pineapple express is going to hit the west coast over the weekend and we can expect lots of rain on Friday and Saturday. What will this mean for fishing this weekend? If the rain arrives as forecasted we expect the main stems of river systems to blow out. If you are planning a trip to the Chilliwack, Squamish or Harrison watch the river levels closely and be very careful…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report – January 16, 2015

Outlook We are just past the midpoint of the month and all and all 2015 is off to a great start. It is still early for steelhead but I think everyone can say that the reports are all very encouraging and if things continue at this rate we are in for a very good season. We can say the same thing for the winter chinook season in the Vancouver harbour. For those who got through the fog, fishing has been very good over the last week and based on past years things should only get better as the season progresses. One challenge that fisherman have faced this season has been the weather and it looks as though another winter storm system will be moving in….

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: January 2nd, 2015

Outlook 2014 went by in a flash, and we are about to embark on another year of angling! Winter steelhead season is underway in the Fraser Valley, and things will only get better from here. Fish are now getting caught daily, but it is still early in the grand scheme of things. This week’s cold front has dropped the local rivers quite a bit, but more rain is on the way! Saltwater anglers are encountering some winter chinook in the local harbour, and things will pick up even more in the New Year. Courses Start the New Year off by learning something new or brushing up on some of your skills. While many of our January courses are already sold out, we have spots left…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: October 31st, 2014

Outlook Another wet and wild weekend of fishing is upon us here in the Lower Mainland. Most of our rivers have been in and out of shape all week, and we are hoping for more stable conditions in the near future. Coho fishing in the Fraser Valley has been good when the conditions allow. Although the fishing has been for the most part less than exciting, we have received some cool new products to keep us occupied in the meantime. We now have the full selection of OPST Dotted Intruder Drabs for all of your fall and winter steelhead patterns. We are also stocking OPST Pure Skagit Lazar Running Line in 30lb, 40lb, and 50lb. We are in the grips of fall rain and winter…

Friday Fishing Report: March 28th, 2014

Outlook: Where are the cutties?  Anyone seen some?  Should we put in a “missing trout” report?  We have heard reports from the valley of great hatches of stoneflies and fry showing up but water levels have not been cooperating and the bi-product of that is few cutties have been seen and caught. We hope this recent rain and the upcoming forecast will truly start this phenomenal local fishery that is ideally suited for the angler who gets that rush from stalking a fish, silently picking your spot to cast and softly landing the line on the water with an epoxy minnow, leading the cuttie then twitching your minnow pattern your fingers themselves nervously awaiting that rush of the cuttie spotting your pattern and making a…

Friday Fishing Report: March 21st, 2014

Outlook: As the weather continues to be unstable so has the fishing.  This means that those of you that are able to put the time in on the water will eventually hit it right and have success.  As you can see below, the weather will be a little unsettled over the weekend but that the temperatures seem to be rising and stabilizing around that 12-13 C mark that Andre mentions further down in his report and how it relates to cutthroat fishing at this time of year. This is an extremely exciting time of year at Pacific Angler.  We can feel the energy levels lifting in the store from our customers as the expectations for steelhead fishing peaking in April and lake fishing is just…

Friday Fishing Report: March 7th, 2014

Outlook: Well the rain has shown up and the river levels have been spiking during the day then falling again with the cold nights.  At the same time, the water levels are getting higher and some more fish have pushed into the local rivers.  The weather will continue to be wet over the weekend with some potentially nice days towards the middle of next week as you can see by the pictures below of the forecasts. If the weather this weekend is keeping some of off the rivers then remember you can still get your “fishing fix” in by visiting the BC Boat & Sportsmen Show at the Tradex center in Abbotsford. Hours and details available in the link provided above. Fishing in the local…

Friday Fishing Report: Feb 28th, 2014

Outlook: Well, February gave us some more of that Vancouver winter that we have not seen alot of this season.  I was amazed to see as much snow as we did in 48hrs here earlier in the week.  Of course, this snow was gone by Wednesday in Vancouver!  This snow means that you need to be careful when heading to the Upper Squamish and don’t push the envelope when it comes to how far you drive if the snow seems heavy. Temperatures will be dropping and hovering between lows of -2 and highs of 8 up in Squamish and of course you can likely shave a couple degree’s off those temperatures the higher up in the valley you go. If you are heading out on…

Friday Fishing Report: Feb 21st, 2014

Outlook: Long distance forecast is for more GOLD in SOCHI!!  We want to wish a huge Canadian CONGRATULATIONS to the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team for their amazing comeback on Thursday to steal the Olympic Gold medal from the USA!! GO CANADA GO – Canada v.s. USA in the men’s hockey semi-final right now!!! Now for the local “outlook”, from pouring rain early in the week to a day of gorgeous sunshine followed by more rain mixed with snow in some areas.  Vancouver winter per usual.  Over the next week you can expect the same so check the weather prior to heading out and be sure to dress accordingly whether you are heading to the Fraser Valley or towards Squamish. In the Georgia Strait the winds…
