Friday Fishing Report: February 14th, 2014

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!! Ladies and gentleman, today is the day you can earn brownie pts with your partner to be used for negotiating more days on the water so don’t drop the ball!! Outlook: The weather is trending warmer this coming weekend and into next week.  Temperatures that were below freezing in the GVRD are now looking at a high of 8-10deg and low’s of around 3.  Up in Squamish the warming trend continues there along with 15-20mm of rain each day in the forecast.  Highs of 5 and lows of 1-2deg means that with the rain the water levels have a chance to come up and in turn, the fish can move around and continue to feed. Friday and Saturday are not looking promising…

Friday Fishing Report: February 7th, 2014

Outlook: Well, on my phone today the weather app was showing a HIGH of -1 and LOW of -8. Suffice to say, I am won’t be walking a river over the next few days!  Those of you who are be sure to take your hand warmers and dress for the cold!!  Max was out fishing yesterday and got frostbite! Of course, this means that the higher you go (Squamish v.s. Vedder) the colder you will get.  Fish are being caught and one of our customers Dave, sent us this pic of a recent Vedder steelhead he caught after getting skunked on his first 5trips….persistence has paid off! Dave: I caught this steelhead on a large black intruder fly last week on the Vedder.  It put…

Friday Fishing Report: Jan 31st, 2014

Outlook: Ahhhhhh the wet Vancouver wonderland in all its glory.  Temperatures in the lower mainland will be hovering between freezing and 6-7deg over the next week with POP consistently in the 90% range.  Saturday in Squamish looks like the best day which I am sure all 10 of our students in Aaron Goodis’s Spey course will be grateful for! Sunday, for any of you mutual Hawk watchers should be a “weather be damned” day as we watch the HAWKS run those Bronco’s out of Metlife Stadium in the Superbowl. GO HAWKS!! The Georgia St. marine forecast remains light to mid winds (5 to 15knot winds) for this coming weekend  so it looks good to get out on the water even though the sunshine may not…

Friday Fishing Report: January 24th, 2014

Outlook: Jason tried 2x in the last week for a day of local heli-fishing and both days could not get more than 5min from the airport due to heavy fog banks hanging around the Fraser Valley.  Makes for gorgeous pictures but not so much for heli-fishing. The GVRD weather forecast including Squamish is calling for moderate temperatures for this time of year with little rain in the next 7-10 days.  The Georgia Strait weather is great for this coming weekend!  Winds from 5-15km SE so with the winter chinook fishing getting better and better, do not hesitate to fill that thermos with coffee+baileys and get out there for some amazing fishing and very little boat traffic. Being that we are constantly selling out of our…

Friday Fishing Report: Jan 17th, 2014

Outlook: The weather coming up is good to amazing!  When I went online to check the forecast I did a “double-take” as I was not used to seeing so many days with little sun icon as the main icon! More fish have been pushing in to your local favorite rivers so get out there and get a tight line! If you are heading out onto the salt chasing winter chinook, prawning and crabbing you will also be treated to some great weather.  As always with the ocean, check the Strait of Georgia Marine Forecast before you go as those conditions can change quickly. Retail Highlights With the steelhead season upon us and bull trout fishing across lower mainland in full swing we loaded up the…

Friday Fishing Report: Jan 10th, 2014

Outlook: In January we look forward to reports of fresh steelhead pushing into rivers, winter chinook becoming keepers as they continue to feast on the bait balls coming into the harbour and around Bowen Island etc.  While fresh rain is helping out the rivers and bringing in fresh fish, its not the most pleasant weather to angle in and it does make for ugly commutes to work and back! Looking ahead for the next 7-10days in the Lower Mainland we are seeing a lot of rain in forecast which may dump some snow on the upper reaches of the Squamish so if you are heading up to higher elevations please check the current forecasts and be sure you are properly equipped for winter driving to…

Outlook: Checking in on the weather forecast for this weekend and the long range we will give you Vancouver & Squamish 14day forecasts.  While we have a snowfall warning for this weekend in the GVRD but don’t let than dampen your shopping spirits!! The winter chinook salmon fishing is in full swing now so don’t hesitate to book your saltwater salmon charter with us or if you are on your own boat, come on in and stock up on the flashers, spoons and bait you will need.  Check out the saltwater reports below to see what’s working and where the guys are hooking up.  Prawning and crabbing has been productive as well! 3000 Facebook Likes for Christmas!! What do Jason and Bryce at Pacific Angler…

Friday Fishing Report: Dec 13th, 2013

Outlook: Pacific Angler’s Holiday Shopping Hours Monday, Dec 16th – Friday, Dec 20th:            10am – 8pm Saturday, Dec 21st & Sunday, Dec 22nd:       10am – 7pm Monday, Dec 23rd:                                           10am – 8pm Tuesday, Dec 24th (Xmas Eve):                      10am – 4pm Friday the 13th.  I tried to file a day off under my Friday the 13th superstitious beliefs with Jason and it didn’t really fly (egg fishing has been good) and therefore, here I am at my desk wondering how many bulls and rainbows I may have hooked should my “situational” superstitions gotten past Jay’s suspicions.  Tight lines to anyone that has a more gullible boss than me! Allow me to “paint” a picture for you regarding the current weather forecast in Vancouver that is…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Sept 6th, 2013

Outlook: Welcome to a wet start to Sept!  This year, there was no doubt about the end of summer.  Even late yesterday afternoon the rolling thunder following the frequent lightening we could see outside the store was a reminder of what we have enjoyed AND what is coming. That being said, fishing has been AMAZING.  Fresh pinks being caught off Furry Creek, Birkenhead fishing well (when not hit by flash floods).  Fraser river opening after being closed to protect the precious sockeye run.  Lake fishing coming back into the picture!  The local salt from W. Van down to the Sandheads has been consistently producing good numbers of Chinook from low teens to 30+lb! September is AMAZING local fishing.  We have had a great start to…
