Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: November 11, 2016

OUTLOOK The rivers are coming down but it is a slow process.  With more rain in the forecast it is hard to tell what will happen.  Squamish hit flood levels earlier in the week and was absolutely unfishable. Scary might be a better word to describe it. Logs and trees were coming down the river and it will be interesting to see how the river has changed after the high water. Anyone drifting should be very careful and be on their toes for new log jams. The river is still coming down and we expect some fishable water this weekend but we expect it to be high. If you’re headed out have fun and be safe. The Vedder is in a fishable condition but fishing has…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 14, 2016

OUTLOOK Batten down the hatches! Earlier in the week we were watching the weather report and things looked downright scary. The weatherman has dialed back his predictions on the amount of rain coming but it is still one of the biggest storms we have seen early on in salmon season. In the short term we have very few options for guys who want to go out fishing this weekend. With 100+mm forecasted Friday, Saturday and Sunday it is safe to say all of our river will be too high to fish and anyone braving the elements should be very mindful of rising water levels. Safety-first boys and girls! Be aware of where you are wading, be smart and be careful. Better yet come down to…

Introducing the Sage X Fly Rod

THE SAGE X FLY ROD REVIEW – by Matt Sharp A Fly Rod with Soul and Maybe Some Kool-Aid Last month when I got a call from Sage Fly Fishing I thought they were just checking in. I was a little taken aback when they told me that they needed me on a plane to attend an all expenses paid Sage factory tour in Bainbridge Island. At first I wasn’t sold. With a busy guiding, ordering and fishing course schedule, getting away is hard. I had seen the Sage factory before but when they told me they had a “Big Announcement” where 50 of the top retailers, magazine editors and bloggers were coming from across North America, my interest was piqued. When they told me…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: June 26, 2015

OUTLOOK We’re heading into a heat wave this weekend! If you’re looking to get out on the water and cool off Whistler Lakes have been fishing well and are a great option close to home. If you can’t get out on the water this weekend be sure to spend some time getting your gear ready for the Chilliwack and the Skagit, both of which open July 1st. We are looking forward to chinook salmon fishing in the Chilliwack River and our resident trout enthusiasts have their gear packed to get to the Skagit River next week. Beach fishing is starting to pick up. We’ve got some good tides coming up this weekend so now is the time to get out. If you’re heading out on…

Friday Fishing Report: April 11th, 2014

Outlook With the past little while showing us some nice (and welcomed) weather, fishing has started to pick up across the board- in both the fresh and saltwater. With the action on local lakes continuing to be good, rivers being rewarding, and the ocean being kind, one can only expect it to get better over time. For those looking for salmon, the expectations over the next little while is that the Hump should start to pick up and produce, as well as keeping in mind that the crabbing and prawning has continued to be excellent. For the anglers who are sticking it out on land, efforts should be focused on local lakes, rivers, and bodies of water that are icing off in attempts to target…

Friday Fishing Report: Feb 21st, 2014

Outlook: Long distance forecast is for more GOLD in SOCHI!!  We want to wish a huge Canadian CONGRATULATIONS to the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team for their amazing comeback on Thursday to steal the Olympic Gold medal from the USA!! GO CANADA GO – Canada v.s. USA in the men’s hockey semi-final right now!!! Now for the local “outlook”, from pouring rain early in the week to a day of gorgeous sunshine followed by more rain mixed with snow in some areas.  Vancouver winter per usual.  Over the next week you can expect the same so check the weather prior to heading out and be sure to dress accordingly whether you are heading to the Fraser Valley or towards Squamish. In the Georgia Strait the winds…

Friday Fishing Report: January 24th, 2014

Outlook: Jason tried 2x in the last week for a day of local heli-fishing and both days could not get more than 5min from the airport due to heavy fog banks hanging around the Fraser Valley.  Makes for gorgeous pictures but not so much for heli-fishing. The GVRD weather forecast including Squamish is calling for moderate temperatures for this time of year with little rain in the next 7-10 days.  The Georgia Strait weather is great for this coming weekend!  Winds from 5-15km SE so with the winter chinook fishing getting better and better, do not hesitate to fill that thermos with coffee+baileys and get out there for some amazing fishing and very little boat traffic. Being that we are constantly selling out of our…

Friday Fishing Report: Jan 17th, 2014

Outlook: The weather coming up is good to amazing!  When I went online to check the forecast I did a “double-take” as I was not used to seeing so many days with little sun icon as the main icon! More fish have been pushing in to your local favorite rivers so get out there and get a tight line! If you are heading out onto the salt chasing winter chinook, prawning and crabbing you will also be treated to some great weather.  As always with the ocean, check the Strait of Georgia Marine Forecast before you go as those conditions can change quickly. Retail Highlights With the steelhead season upon us and bull trout fishing across lower mainland in full swing we loaded up the…
