Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Nov 1, 2013

Outlook: FINALLY we get some more October precipitation! Now, how often does a long suffering Vancouverite get the chance to say that?  The driest October in years is getting drenched again this week and the rivers need it! Be sure to keep checking in on the different hydrometric data graphs to see what the water levels are doing on the various river systems.  You can view full list of hydrometric graphs and select which river system you want to track. The local saltwater has produced some more good fishing as of late as well and if you are out there it will probably only be you, a couple seals and maybe another boat or two!  Check out Eddie’s report below for details. This last week…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 25th, 2013

Outlook: So it seems that in 2013 that October and September have decided to swap places regarding our fall weather patterns!  September being one of the wettest Septembers in years and October shaping up to being the driest October in over 20yrs. What does this mean for fishing?  The local saltwater fishing definitely did not benefit from this switch, river fishing has been amazing and the fall lake fishing continues to deliver epic days for the loyal stillwater anglers. There is some rain in the forecast this weekend which will help out falling river levels then we head back to another week of sun! Fresh waves of fish continue to come into the various river systems and fishing continues to be from good to excellent! The…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 18th, 2013

Outlook: We are hitting full stride for fall salmon fishing in the local rivers.  Fish are continuing to enter their home stretch and the stories we hear at the shop each day is that tight lines are in abundance. The Vancouver weather forecast and the Nicola Valley/Merritt weather forecasts are both steady and should contribute to steady fishing any day you can get out there. JT was at the Redl show today and picked up fresh fly stock for all the salmon stalking fly fisherman that are looking for patterns to strip or swing. Locally the saltwater scene has slowed substantially.  You will read below what very well may be our last saltwater fishing report till the winter springs start showing up! Lake fishing is…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Oct 11th, 2013

Outlook: Here we go, heading into another long weekend!  Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!  Keep in mind that Pacific Angler will be CLOSED on the holiday Monday, Oct 14th. Regular hours will be in effect the rest of the weekend. We are expecting the fishing off of W. Van to be fair to good this weekend with the right flood tides and anchovies down at the bottom. River heights and clarity are fluctuating at this time and as you will read below, conditions that we were expecting based on research were not being found when we made it to the river.  When you are fishing the Squamish you generally want the river height to be between 2.5-3m.  When you are researching the Squamish at Brackendale Hydrometric…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Oct 4th, 2013

Outlook: Ok, you can put the waterwings away now.  For the time being, it looks like the rain in the forecast will be intermittent or showers at the worst.  Not like the deluge we recently endured.  So, lets stalk the rivers.  They will be falling into shape nicely with the cooler temperatures at night even a little rain will not spike the water levels. It is time to get your river gear whether it be fly, spoon, float ready to go.  We got our full shipment of Rio products in yesterday so we are stocked on leaders, versa-tip systems and everything you will need.  Fly section is loaded up and we are stocked up in the gear section as well! The local saltwater fishing has slowed…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Sept 27th, 2013

Outlook: Break out the water-wings this weekend.  From Vancouver to Squamish, there is a full rainfall warning in effect for this weekend.  The EXCITING aspect of this forecast is this will bring fresh fish into their home river systems but it will also blow out many of the systems making the fishing conditions tough and potentially unfishable this weekend, shortly after this the fishing should be spectacular! That being said, the people that check updated conditions or go exploring can quite often come across parts of the rivers fishable and have epic days catching the fresh fish coming up the rivers. For the those of you heading out on the salt to do some salmon fishing please be sure you are keeping yourself updated with…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Sept 20, 2013

Outlook: September is continuing to grace us with a mixed bag of weather.  With this weather comes some great fishing, fresh fish, spiking river water levels then dropping as the nights get cooler.  With rain then sun we will see some fish push up in the rivers while others will begin to stage off the river mouths as they wait for another rainfall.  This cycle will continue for the next 3-4weeks producing good fishing! The local Marine Forecast – Strait of Georgia is showing fishable conditions Friday & Saturday but the wind picks up on Sunday to 20-30knots.  Check the forecast before you head out as conditions can change quickly. Rain is in the forecast for the weekend but this does not change the local salt…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Sept 13th, 2013

Outlook: So the first week of Sept we have thunder and lightening storms and the second week we break records for heat and sun.  As the mixed bag of weather is upon us and continues to be over the next 10days it has provided and will likely continue to provide fisherman with a mixed bag of fishing as well. Local salt fishing has continued to go from good to GREAT.  Sturgeon fishing has been really good on the Fraser, the pink fishing is heating up as well on the Fraser. This weekend promises more of the same great weather although early next week we are forecast for more rain which will continue throughout the week.  This may push some fish up the rivers but can…
