Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Sept 6th, 2013

Outlook: Welcome to a wet start to Sept!  This year, there was no doubt about the end of summer.  Even late yesterday afternoon the rolling thunder following the frequent lightening we could see outside the store was a reminder of what we have enjoyed AND what is coming. That being said, fishing has been AMAZING.  Fresh pinks being caught off Furry Creek, Birkenhead fishing well (when not hit by flash floods).  Fraser river opening after being closed to protect the precious sockeye run.  Lake fishing coming back into the picture!  The local salt from W. Van down to the Sandheads has been consistently producing good numbers of Chinook from low teens to 30+lb! September is AMAZING local fishing.  We have had a great start to…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Aug 30, 2013

Outlook: Welcome to your October thunder and lightening storms – in August? This rain is definitely going to get the river fishing going early.  Without a doubt there will be coho moving into the Capilano, and Chilliwack River today with the big storm we had last night. The massive biomass of pinks, in the millions, has shown up at the Fraser and the test sets are starting to go ballistic. Bryce and I (JT) were on the phone with DFO yesterday and they were literally working on the paperwork to open up the Fraser to fishing for pink salmon today.  The notice has not been sent out as of this morning, but the second we get the email announcing the opening we will let you…

Pacific Angler Fishing Report: Friday, Aug 23rd, 2013

Outlook: As we are coming off the full moon the tides are starting to become balanced and less drastic in their highs and lows.  The weather this weekend is calling for 40% chance of showers with sun and cloud so no excuses, its time to be on the water. With cooler weather do not forget about checking out some different lakes and check out our report from last week that highlighted some recommended lakes to fish during the summer with bomber chironomids. Beaches and rivers are fishing well from W. Vancouver up to Squamish.  It’s all about taking the time to go explore and find some water that is fishy. LABOUR DAY CHINOOK CLASSIC Join us this summer for Vancouver’s premier fishing derby! The Labour…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Aug 16th, 2013

Outlook: This weather, gasp! Is this RAIN?  In Vancouver??  This wet stuff is so unusual around Vancouver I don’t know what to do??  Yes, the barometer has dropped, raindrops are in the forecast for this weekend but this should not “dampen” your spirits regarding the fishing which has been great as of late.  See reports below on springs and double headers! Up in the interior the dryness continues and this bodes well for some dry fly fishing on the Thompson and other areas.  We even have an updated Stillwater report from our friend John Kent on which lakes to target and why NOW is the time to go target a few of our favorite lakes! If you fish anywhere in INDIAN ARM READ THIS!  We…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Aug 9th, 2013

Outlook: Weather forecast for Vancouver = GREAT Wind forecast for Georgia Basin = GREAT (moderate 15knot to light 5knot) Tides for Vancouver Harbour = GREAT!  Early morning flood tides this weekend with nice mid-day low slack and evening flood. Thompson river reports are getting better, pinks in the Squamish, Skagit fishing nicely with more bulls showing and the Birkenhead is shaping up nicely now as well. The local salt is continuing to produce decent numbers of fish with a lot of the action coming from the pinks although coho and the odd Chinook are still being boxed.  Sockeye are also being caught but they are still closed and word on the water is that there will not be a sockeye opening this year.  We will…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Aug 2nd, 2013

Outlook: July broke a 60yr record as it recorded ZERO precipitation in the entire month. Now we have clouds and 30% chance of rain over the next couple days. The pink salmon run continues to come in waves and should be a fairly significant sized run this season so fishing in Howe Sound, The Fraser and other pink destinations should experience great fishing over the next 6weeks. The Merritt-Nicola Valley is expecting thunderstorms and showers over the long weekend. It’s time to start moving away from W. Vancouver while trolling and targeting the springs as they are showing up off T10 and Bell Buoy markers now! The roads around BC will be VERY busy with the long weekend.  Plan accordingly and please drive safe this…

Pacific Angler (late) Fishing Report: Friday, July 26th, 2013

Outlook: Weather continues to be amazing here in Vancouver. JT and I were talking this morning as I drove him to the airport to fly up to the DEAN (not jealous at all) and we can’t remember the last time a July was this perfect for summer! The store is LOADED with new gear for whatever your needs are. Sage rod’s, Simm’s waders, pink salmon gear, flashers, hoochies, spoons, flies (Thompson River, Skagit, Birkenhead etc…) With the FULL moon moving on you will see more calmer tidal ebbs and floods and this should lead to hotter fishing as well. Next week is shaping up to be epic. We just need a couple fresh waves of fish to show up. Strong wind warning in effect this…

Friday Fishing Report: July 19th, 2013

Outlook: Hot and steamy.  This weather has been amazing, its why Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world AND it keeps the fish stacked up off W. Van. The weather does not look like it will let up either.  There is nothing drastic in the marine forecast either with 10-15knot NW winds for the next few days. There are regular updates being sent out by the DFO now as well.  Make sure you know the updated regulations for pink salmon in Howe Sound. Lake fishing has not died off yet.  Just fish higher elevation lakes or mornings and evenings for the hatch or for cruising fish in the shoals at night. As mentioned in last weeks fishing report, we were expecting to…

Friday Fishing Report: July 12th, 2013

Outlook: With the gorgeous weather over the last 2 weeks it does not look like it will be changing anytime soon as well.  Rivers are falling back into shape again and fish are showing up! With a steady higher barometer in the interior you will want to be sure you are watching the elevation of lakes you are fishing. The long-term forecast calls for a 48hr heavy rainfall of over $50k in cash and prizes, YES it is the Labour Day Chinook Classic is coming SOON!! LABOUR DAY CHINOOK CLASSIC is the premier catch & release salmon fishing event hosted annually on Vancouver’s North Shore. Held over the Labour Day long weekend, this 2-day event (Saturday Aug 31 & Sunday Sept 1, 2013) awards the largest cash prize…
