After wrapping up our Stillwater Series, we're excited to launch something we've wanted to share for a long time—the Pacific Angler Saltwater Salmon Series.
Throughout this series, we'll cover the techniques, gear and strategies our guides use every season to help anglers find success on the water. We're kicking things off with one of our favourite fisheries of the summer: trolling for coho salmon.
Summer coho are aggressive, fast-moving fish that provide exciting action and are a perfect target for anglers of all experience levels. While finding fish is always important, having the right presentation can make all the difference.

In this video, we walk through our complete coho trolling setup, including the rods, reels and line we fish, along with our favourite flashers, hoochies and spoons. We also discuss leader lengths, trolling speed, downrigger depths and how we use our sonar to stay on schools of feeding fish.
One of the biggest takeaways is that successful coho fishing isn't just about the lure—it's about creating an active presentation. Running bright, UV-enhanced gear, fishing the upper water column, varying your trolling speed and making tight turns around schools of bait are all simple adjustments that can dramatically increase your success.
We also spend time discussing responsible fish handling. With wild coho encountered during this fishery, knowing how to quickly identify hatchery fish and safely release wild fish is an essential skill for every saltwater angler.
If you're planning to chase coho this summer, this video provides an excellent starting point and highlights the exact gear and techniques our guide team relies on throughout the season.
Watch the video below, then stop by the shop if you'd like help selecting the right setup or adding to your current gear. We stock all of the rods, reels, flashers, hoochies, spoons and terminal tackle featured in the video, and our staff are always happy to help you put together a system that fits your boat and your fishing needs.
This is just the beginning of our Saltwater Salmon Series, so be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and keep an eye on our blog. We've got plenty more videos coming on chinook salmon, fishing tips and techniques, tackle selection, how we setup and much more.
