Position Overview

As a Retail Sales Associate, you'll be the face of Pacific Angler. You'll build relationships with customers, provide knowledgeable product recommendations, and help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail environment.

Our customers choose Pacific Angler because they trust our staff to provide honest, experience-based advice. While no one is expected to know everything, every member of our team is committed to continually learning, sharing knowledge, and helping customers become more successful anglers.

 

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

  • Deliver exceptional customer service to every customer, whether in-store, over the phone, or through online inquiries.
  • Welcome customers and take the time to understand their fishing goals, experience level, and equipment needs.
  • Recommend products and techniques that best suit each customer's needs.
  • Provide accurate information on fishing products, techniques, regulations, and seasonal opportunities.
  • Assist customers with special orders, product availability, warranties, and general inquiries.
  • Process sales, returns, exchanges, and gift cards accurately using our point-of-sale system.
  • Promote Pacific Angler classes, guided fishing trips, events, and other services.
  • Encourage customers to subscribe to our weekly Fishing Report and email newsletter.

 

Product Knowledge

  • Share practical, experience-based advice to help customers make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Continuously build your knowledge of fishing equipment, techniques, and fisheries.
  • Stay informed on new products, brands, and industry trends.
  • Learn about the wide range of products we carry, including fly fishing, freshwater, saltwater, tackle, electronics, apparel, and accessories.

 

Merchandising & Store Operations

  • Help maintain an organized, well-stocked, and visually appealing sales floor.
  • Replenish merchandise and ensure pricing and signage are accurate.
  • Assist with receiving inventory and putting away stock as needed.
  • Maintain clean displays, aisles, and work areas.
  • Support inventory counts and other operational tasks throughout the year.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with teammates to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding customer feedback, product requests, and inventory needs.
  • Support fellow team members during busy periods and seasonal events.
  • Participate in ongoing product training and staff development opportunities.

 

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, has a genuine passion for fishing, and takes pride in providing exceptional customer service.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous retail or customer service experience.
  • Active participation in recreational fishing with a solid understanding of fishing equipment, tackle, techniques, and the overall angling experience.
  • Working knowledge of fishing tackle, equipment, knots, rigging, and techniques, with the ability to confidently assist customers and recommend appropriate products.
  • A genuine passion for fishing and a commitment to continually expanding your product knowledge and fishing expertise.
  • Friendly, approachable, and professional attitude.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable using computers and learning new software.
  • Reliable, dependable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience across multiple fishing disciplines, including freshwater, saltwater, or fly fishing.
  • Experience with retail point-of-sale systems.
  • Familiarity with premium fishing brands and equipment.
  • Previous experience working in the fishing, outdoor, or sporting goods industry.

Compensation Range - Based on Experience:  $18.25/hour-$22/hour
