If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you’ve already seen Jason Tonelli’s recent product spotlight on boat bags for early season lake fishing in British Columbia.
This post builds on that, with Jason’s personal Stillwater boat bag setup. It’s a practical list of what he carries to stay prepared through the lake fishing season. We’ve also included links to our favourite boat bags for lake fishing available on the Pacific Angler online store.

Why does a boat bag matter?
A waterproof boat bag is a critical piece of gear for fishing in BC, especially for lake anglers. When your bag is fully waterproof and properly packed, you can stay out in the elements longer - and keep fishing.

A good boat bag keeps your fly boxes, leaders, tippet, and lines organized and, most importantly, dry. Everything Jason packs for the season fits in one bag, so when he grabs it, he knows he’s ready to go. No second guessing or worrying about what you forgot.
“I use this list before each trip make sure my boat bag is fully stocked and ready to rock,” says Tonelli. “I know when I grab my rod tubes and this boat bag, I am ready for anything stillwater trout can throw at me!”
In the shop and online, we carry fully waterproof boat bags from Fishpond and Simms in a range of sizes and models. Stop by the shop or check them out online. Questions? Send them via email to info@pacificangler.ca or give us a call at 604.872.2204.
