Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: February 04, 2022

OUTLOOK  We have a nice-looking weekend for getting out the water. Today, Friday, we will see some rain and for many of the river systems, the water is a good thing. We will also see warmer weather and clear skies moving into Sunday.   On the river front, we have updates on the Stave and Squamish in the freshwater section below but, long story short, it should be a good weekend to get out on the water.  Taylor has a report on the Chilliwack which continues to have water clarity issues but we saw some very positive reports last weekend. Have a read of his report for all of the details.    We also have an ice fishing update for you today. With warmer weather it looks like…

OUTLOOK  January is almost over and with it we are starting to hear more positive valley steelhead reports. The Chilliwack continues to have water clarity issues but fish are being caught. Gavin has some tips on how to tackle dirty water and has river level details in this week’s Vedder/Chilliwack report.   With the dirty water issues in mind, it is time to widen your horizons to other systems. Though we won’t get into details on every little system that has steelhead in the valley, we are looking at the Stave River this week.  While it is not an “all-day” river system, it can make a good addition to a “Steelhead circuit”. The Stave report has more info on this.    On the Squamish River, the snow…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: January 21, 2022

OUTLOOK  Things are looking up.  The weather looks great for the weekend.  Snow is melting in the upper reaches of river systems and with dry weather we might see the Vedder/Chilliwack come into shape.  Taylor has details on this system in the river section of the report.  It is nowhere close to a sure thing, but conditions should become more favourable this week.  We have heard the odd report of steelhead but as many of you know the conditions are a challenge with multiple slides colouring the river.    The Squamish was a challenge last week.  Even though river conditions were good, the snow made access an issue and the spots that had access got busy.  Again, river conditions are looking good for this weekend, but we haven’t been up in a few days so it’s hard to tell if enough of the snow is gone to alleviate the access issue.   It is also now prime time…

OUTLOOK  Another week is in the books.   We can’t believe it is nearly the middle of January.    We had a wet start to the week but, things look like they are drying out for the most part.   The rain was great for systems like the Squamish that was quite low after all of the snow and colder temperatures.  Out in the valley, the Chilliwack/Vedder peaked but, it too, looks like it is on its way down with the drier weather over the last 24 hours or so.   Taylor has an update on that system in our Freshwater Fishing Report section below.    Kids are back in the classroom now and we are too.  We have a number of great courses coming up.  Our larger seminars are held via zoom and our reduced size tying classes will be held…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: January 7, 2022

OUTLOOK  It has been an interesting week of weather again in BC.  With snow, rain and everything in between, we have not had many folks heading out on the water.  Things are looking up though and we will see a warming trend with above freezing temperatures along with some rain.  For some systems like the Squamish, we want the rain and warmth.  With current river levels on the Squamish more water is needed and if we get some more rain and a corresponding bump in water levels, we expect it to be well worth the trip.   Matt has more info. in this week’s Squamish report so have a read of that.  For the Chilliwack/Vedder system we are still learning how the flood changes and slide issues will affect water clarity.  Some folks have been out scouting/fishing that way and Sterling…

OUTLOOK  Merry Almost Christmas!  We hope everyone is having an excellent holiday season.  It looks as though we are going to see a white Christmas with a noticeable dump of snow forecast for Christmas day and then we will see a cold snap for the following week.  This is going to put a damper on many fishing plans but there is something special about fishing in the snow.   In this week’s report we have info on the Chilliwack and Squamish but, if you are planning on hiding out at home, make sure to check out our boxing week sale list.  This is the biggest sale of our year and this year has some amazing deals.  We have waders, boots, jackets and lots of other fishing gear heavily discounted.  If you don’t want to come into the shop, the full list will be in your inbox and on…

OUTLOOK  Christmas is around the corner, and in preparation, mother nature has been bringing the Christmas weather.  It looks as though more snow for many areas around the Lower Mainland is coming over the next 5 days but it should be more of a mix of rain and snow.  As always, be sure to keep an eye on those weather reports/marine forecasts before you head out!  If you’re headed to the shop, to pick up a gift for the angler in your life or perhaps a little something for yourself, be sure to take a peek at our parking map for some tips on the best spots to park in the neighbourhood during the subway line construction!   We also have extended shopping hours on Wednesday December 23 until 7PM if you need to get some last minute shopping done!   For those of you sticking close to home this week, a friendly remember…

OUTLOOK  Another interesting week for BC weather has left fishing options limited.  Every major system in the Lower Mainland spiked again over the last 5 days.  Once again, our best wishes go out to all those affected by continued flooding.  Our hats are off to all those helping out on the ground, and we wanted to thank those who took part in our latest Instagram auction earlier this week.  There were some very generous bids and we managed to raise another $1500 for flood relief.    On the fishing front, the good news is there is cold weather coming.  This should suck up a lot of the water and drop things back into shape.  Squamish is one area we may see some fishable conditions soon.  The river spiked with heavy rain and very warm temperatures last week and the upper road is having some issues but it is coming down fast.  We have…
