Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: June 10, 2022

Interior_lake_fishing_June'22

OUTLOOK  It looks as though we were going to see more rain this week but the weather man has changed his tune as of Friday morning and we are looking at pretty nice weather over the next 5 days. It will be a perfect mix of sun and cloud for fishing in Vancouver. In the Kamloops area and other parts of the interior, we will see a little more rain early next week but the weekend looks great. We are also seeing a nice extension of our spring lake season with cooler seasonal temps making for more great lake reports.   This week, we will keep the report short but we have good intel on the Capilano as well as an update for the interior lakes….

OUTLOOK Rain this weekend might put a damper on outdoor plans but at least things are warming up. We will be seeing more seasonal temps throughout then next 14 days and it looks nice early next week for fishing. In this week’s report we have some interesting articles on kokanee fishing, interior lake fishing and post spawn bass fishing. In the Fraser River sturgeon report Ethan shares his go to combination sturgeon bait that he has been doing well within the heavier water caused by accelerated snow melt. We are also starting to look at snow levels and water levels for making predictions on future fisheries like the Chilliwack (July 1 opening) as well as the July/August trout fisheries. In the video version of the…

OUTLOOK We hope everyone had a great long weekend! It looks like we have another nice one coming and maybe spring is here to stay. Rain is in the forecast today but a nice mix of sun and cloud will carry us over the weekend and we could see some of the first above seasonal temps mid next week. This week we have some info on lake fishing in the interior where things continue to be excellent. Things are warming up and we are starting to hear reports of more diverse insect hatches in the lower elevation lakes.  The warm weather last week finally kicked in snow melt in a noticeable way. It is still behind schedule but we are starting to see the Fraser…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: May 20, 2022

OUTLOOK  Happy May Long Weekend! We are looking forward to a long weekend in the shop and all the nice weather that has finally arrived. With it we have a big report for you all!   The temperature won’t crack 20 in Vancouver but we will see high teens today, Saturday and Sunday. Lake fishing is going strong and the weather looks great for Sunday even if there will be some unsettled weather today and Saturday.   This week, we have a number of lake updates and some interesting observations from fishing trips over the last 10 days that will hopefully be useful if you are heading out this weekend.  Matt has some important simple boat gear tips with some cool gear. Every year we hear about…

OUTLOOK  Happy Friday 13th everyone! Hope no bad luck comes your way and the fishing gods are kind if you are out on the water!  Though we don’t buy into the superstition, we are still not getting lucky with the weather this weekend. Last week we saw forecasts that had above seasonal temps coming this week but things remain cold.   This continues to help some fisheries and hinder others. Though we have slowed down on river reports we will note that a number of our local rivers are still in shape and fishing well even though it is way past their normal prime time. We don’t have reports on the Squamish or Chilliwack this week but check your river levels and regulations and go for…

OUTLOOK  We have a big report for everyone this week!  First off, if you have been outside at all this week you will know the weather continues to be cool with rain this weekend and a warming trend at the back end of next week.  As we’ve noted before, the cooler weather is actually great for fishing. There are a ton of options right now if you are looking to get out.  In this week’s report, we have some fun sturgeon fishing info. from Ethan who has been hitting the Lower Fraser bank fishery and it has been excellent. He goes over everything you need to know from tackle to eulachan rigging. Check it out If you want to try this very easy and cool…

OUTLOOK Things continue to be unseasonably cool but the upside is that it has made for some great fishing weather. Lakes are icing off in the interior and the reports we are hearing are excellent. In this week’s report we will cover our usual fishing updates along with a special feature on sounders for lake fishing. Jason has taken his knowledge of sounders from the saltwater world and applied it to the shallow water game. If you have been thinking about putting a sounder on your boat you will not want to miss this article. For saltwater anglers bottom fishing across the straight opens on Sunday (May 1)! We are stocked up in the store with paddle tails, drop jigs and ball weights. Jason is…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 22

OUTLOOK  It is almost the end of April and the bits of sun today have us excited for spring fishing!   For our saltwater anglers it’s petition time!   There is a petition out to Minister Murray re: proposed fisheries closures related to SRKW.  We all know that DFO uses fisheries closures as an easy, highly visible but ineffective tool to address wild salmon decline while choosing to ignore best available science and the real issues affecting wild salmon!   Sign it today.    On the fishing news front, lake fishing is heating up.  We have some cool new fritz colors for all you lake fly tying addicts that just hit the fly tying wall. Though the weather is still a little hit and miss as things warm up…

OUTLOOK  With sun, cloud and a little rain over the next couple days and into next week, we are hopeful for some good fishing.  That said, things continue to be cold and with the unseasonably cold weather the rivers are low again and it is affecting the salmon fry migration. Last weekend, we saw some higher water levels but everything dropped fast because of the cold weather.   We need some warmer weather for all of our fisheries to turn on. This week, we have details on the Squamish, Chilliwack, Harrison and Stave rivers. We have had some more positive cutthroat reports from the valley and it’s well worth a trip but the 14-day trend is not good when it comes to temperatures. This will extend…

OUTLOOK  Spring is here but she seems to be dragging her feet a little in the Lower Mainland with cool night time temperatures over the last week. We have had some rain over the last day or two but not as much as was forecast.  The rivers are still fishing well but we would like more water and a little bit warmer night time temperatures to get the salmon fry really moving.   We have reports on the Squamish, Chilliwack as well as the Stave and Harrison.   Though it has been a little cooler than we would like, we did get some wind in the interior over the last week and it has accelerated the ice off on many lower elevation lakes. Sterling has an update…
