Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: May 3, 2019

OUTLOOK We want to start off with a big thank you to everyone who came out to support the Chinook Closure Protest. We saw almost 200 guys and girls outside of Minister Jonathan Wilkinson’s Office in North Vancouver and this is just the beginning. If you didn’t make the protest there will be many more opportunities to show support so stay tuned.   In the meantime, the biggest thing you can do is get educated on the facts and whenever you are asked about the subject or hear people talking about it please take time to help educate them.Check out Jason’s report this week for ways to participate and if you need to get up to date check out our past reports where there is lots of information on the…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 26, 2019

OUTLOOK Looks like a solid weekend to be heading out on the water. On the saltwater front we do have some wind that we will need to tackle but temps have been warm all week in the interior and we continue to hear good lake reports and more ice off reports. Zach was up in lake country last weekend and has some first-hand ice off reports and some fishing intel. We have our introduction to lake fishing course and intro to chironomid course coming up and there are still spots available. If you are getting into lake fishing or need a refresher, check out the details in the course section below.  If you’re looking to stay closer to home this weekend there are some good fishing opportunities on…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 19, 2019

OUTLOOK Happy Easter Long Weekend – if you’re getting out this weekend, we’ll be in the shop regular hours all weekend and closed on Monday What a week – lakes are icing off and we have been hearing great early reports on a number of lakes south of Kamloops. River fishing is still going strong and we have never seen more chinook in our local waters. Oh ya, the government also thought they should regulate the same chinook fishery with a total disregard for science, effective conservation and economics.  It is a complicated issue so be sure to have a read of Jason’s detailed review of the situation in this week’s saltwater fishing section of the report.  These new regulations are for non-retention of chinook…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 12, 2019

OUTLOOK Well it seems like we are making up for the dry March weather in April!   It was a wet week and looks like we have a bit more rain in store for the weekend.  On the freshwater front, all of the rain brought river levels up and coloured the water a bit as well.  Fishing has been consistent and the key to success is to cover water be prepared with a well-stocked tackle box to ensure you are ready whatever water conditions you may encounter.   As we are heading into spring, we are thinking local lake fishing.   Don’t miss out on Aidan’s review on local stocked lakes.  There has been lots of action on the saltwater front. This past week there was good to…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 5, 2019

OUTLOOK  The first big storm of spring is incoming! If the weather man is on his game, we are in for a wet one this weekend and it will affect all our major fisheries.   Over the next 3 days we are going to get dumped on. We have had reports that the Squamish system is already on its way to being dirty and high. It will be interesting to see how high it goes, and flooding could be an issue if we get all the rain predicted. Needless to say fishing will be a challenge. If you are heading out be very cognizant of safety and river levels.    This weather will have similar effects on the Vedder and other medium to high gradient systems. The lower gradient systems like the Harrison should still fish well as it takes longer…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 29, 2019

OUTLOOK Sun and mid-teens weather, the fry are popping, bulltrout and cutts are out in force, steelhead are biting and our guys are catching good numbers of chinook, crab and prawns out on the saltwater – what could make it better?   A sale!  Our Spring Super Sale is almost HERE!  You have probably already seen all sales list on Instagram, Facebook or on the blog but this weekend; Saturday and Sunday the entire store is on sale! It is the biggest sale of the year but only lasts two days!  So be sure to come on down and get geared up for less!  If you are hitting the water this weekend after checking out the sale don’t miss this week’s reports.   We have had great reports from all our major fisheries….

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 22, 2019

OUTLOOK Wow! Spring has sprung and she has done it in style! We will see more epic weather this weekend. The number of fishing opportunities this time of year is awesome. The temps will drop a little over the next couple of days but it will still be well above seasonal norms. We have some cool stuff in the report this week. If you are going through the gear on your boat getting ready for the summer and are finding that your tools have rusted over the winter, we have a solution to make sure it never happens again. KMDA Tool Savers have been on our boats for a season now and we love them. Check out the product feature below and never struggle with…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 15, 2019

OUTLOOK For the last two months every time we have sat down to write the report, we have been looking out the window at utterly miserable weather. This week things are changing and if the weather report holds true it is changing in a big way! BUT – Before we get into the fishing side of things, we want to talk a little about what has been on all dedicated saltwater anglers’ minds – the potential chinook conservation measures.  There is detailed information in Jason’s saltwater report this week related to the potential measures.  We are asking all concerned anglers to write a letter. A decision from the minister of fisheries is imminent and every letter will make a difference. Stop reading right now, scroll…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 8, 2019

OUTLOOK We don’t know what is with Thursday nights and writing the report but it seems like every day we start working on this report the weather is nasty. The good news this week is this might be the last of it. The 14 day trend looks to be bringing much warmer weather and the outlook for the weekend it pretty nice. This week we have updates on all our major rivers and we have a brief section dedicated the reports of the salmon fry hatching. This hasn’t started yet but it looks to be just around the corner and something all rivers anglers will want to keep an eye on.  On the fly tying front Matt and Jordan have been tying up a storm…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 1, 2019

OUTLOOK For the first time in three weeks we are happy to be writing the report without snow falling or snow in the short term forecast!  We are looking at nice weather in the forecast for the weekend and straight through next week.  It won’t be warm but with temps around 4-6 degrees and a mix of sun and cloud it should be good winter fishing weather. More steelhead reports keep rolling in on all our major steelhead systems. Alex was out on the Vedder last weekend so be sure to check out his report for the latest. On the bulltrout front it is still too cold to start thinking about salmon fry hatching but the second we get some warm weather this will change….
