Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: October 27, 2023

river_fishing_chilliwack_coho_Oct'23

OUTLOOK  Well, we are wrapping up October with some great fishing opportunities across the board.  With this recent cold snap, rivers are clearing, and things are dropping on most of the major systems.  In this week’s reports we have updates from the Squamish, the Harrison and the Chilliwack systems as well as our local and interior lakes.    If you missed the fisheries notice earlier in the week, a no recreational fishing for chum salmon management measure for the Lower Fraser River tributaries has been implemented.  More details are below on that.    On the saltwater front, our guide boats have been out, and fishing has been very productive!  We’ll be back next week with a full saltwater report but if you’re thinking of heading out, now…

OUTLOOK  BOOM! Well, the water we were looking for came. Though many anglers who were out had to contend with blown out dirty water conditions over the last week, on most of our systems the bump of water will help fishing when the rivers come back into shape.   On the weather front, we are going to see a pretty nice weekend. This should help water levels settle. When we look out to the end of next week it looks as though more rain is coming but it doesn’t look like a substantial storm so both this weekend and next look like very good weekends to get out to the valley rivers.   The valley rivers are on the drop as we write this report and already…

OUTLOOK  We were expecting more rain this weekend but as we write the report Friday it looks as though the bulk of the precipitation will come early next week. The reports we have been receiving all week are good, but rain would be nice.   It is well worth getting out this weekend, but it might also be a great plan to look at a mid-week trip next week. This week we have reports on the Squamish, Harrison and Chilliwack in the rivers section plus Jason tunes in with a saltwater report where we are already hearing good feeder chinook reports.   We are still waiting for lake temps in the interior to drop a little and get the fish up on the shoals. Next week, Jason…

OUTLOOK  Happy Thanksgiving!    We are looking forward to another long weekend and with it some extra time out on the water!   If we could sum up this week’s report in two words, it would be – Go Fishing!  We have an amazing weekend of weather in the forecast, and the reports all week have been excellent so it’s time to get out there and enjoy it.    In this week’s report, we have details on the Chilliwack, Capilano and Squamish in the freshwater section. All valley rivers are low but fishing well. The heat forecasted this weekend is not great for the Sea to Sky corridor, but we are still hearing good reports from up there. Even though the water will be colored in spots it…

OUTLOOK October is just around the corner and Salmon season is in full swing! With the rain last week and temperatures cooling we have had good reports coming in all week! In this report we will look at all the major systems. They are all worth fishing this time of year. We have details on the Capilano, Chilliwack, Squamish, Stave and Harrison plus Matt goes over them all at a thousand foot level in the video version of the report. The cool thing about October is there are so many fisheries hitting prime time. Two fisheries that are sometimes forgotten about are sturgeon fishing and interior lake fishing. Jason has an interior lake fishing report and sturgeon fishing is also going well. If you want…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: Friday September 22, 2023

OUTLOOK We are getting to the back end of September and with it we are seeing many of our classic salmon river fisheries ramp up. Pink Fishing on the Fraser is now closed but there are still some opportunities to target fresh pinks on the Squamish and Chilliwack. Just note that there are now many older stale fish in both systems. They are not great table fair if you are fishing the Chilliwack (where you can still retain pinks) and if you see pinks actively spawning in the shallows, we would ask that you leave them alone in both systems. On the coho and chinook front we are already starting to hear some positive reports as well.    As of writing of the report there is…

OUTLOOK September is in full swing and there are so many great fisheries to get out and enjoy! The saltwater fishing is still going strong and Jason tunes in this week with an update from this week and what to expect as we head into September.  We can’t tell you what spot will fish best tomorrow but we can relate some of the trends we have seen over the last 10 days (they have been interesting). Check it out in the saltwater section at the end of the report. We also have a Chilliwack update and even though the water is low it is worth a trip. It is open for pinks and there are quite a few in the river. We have also heard…

OUTLOOK  GOOD NEWS and more GOOD NEWS! It is opening day for chinook salmon retention in many of the local saltwater areas. We have been eagerly awaiting this opening.  If you’re heading out, pay attention to the marine forecast as there are some strong winds forecasted but, get the teaser heads out, it’s GO Time! Check out Jason’s report for some of his tips for opening weekend!   The other good news is the Fraser River (both the freshwater and saltwater portions) and her tributaries are open for pink salmon!   We had almost given up hope. If you missed the debacle last week, DFO told the Sports Fishing Advisory Board that they were upgrading the run size to 17 million and would be opening it last weekend….

OUTLOOK  If you haven’t heard by now the in season tests for pink salmon are coming in much higher than predicted. Given that and meetings we have been in with DFO this week we were anticipating an announcement relating to the opening of the tidal portion of the Fraser River for pink retention today.  But unfortunately due to delays at DFO the official fisheries notice wasn’t released.     We are still hopeful this announcement will come and when it does we will let you know here with a special report  where we will have details on how to fish this fishery. For those of you looking to fish for pinks from the beach we are  finally hearing good beach and inshore pink reports from up Howe Sound. We have details…
