Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: May 10, 2024

OUTLOOK We are seeing a pretty interesting May so far!   It has hovered in a Goldilocks Zone – warm enough for good interior lake fishing but cool enough not to blow out our local rivers. This weekend may change things. With temps moving into the mid 20s we are in for a great weekend for the hitting the patio or the water, but we do expect to see snow melt on the local flows. In this week’s report we have an update on both the Squamish and the local cutthroat fishing. Both should be good this weekend but keep an eye on river levels as we might see visibility issues on the Squamish and then access issues on the local cutthroat haunts. Check out more…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: May 3, 2024

OUTLOOK We are into May and the weekend’s weather looks a little cool in the Lower Mainland but the Interior’s temperatures might hit 20 this weekend so it is going to be a good weekend to head out. The cool weather is actually great for the Lower Mainland rivers that are seeing a good late season. It is also good for the Lower mainland stocked lakes. Cooler weather will keep them from heating up. Reports have been good on both of these fronts, and we expect it to continue when looking at the 14-day forecast. This week we have a Squamish update where the river levels remain low and there should be more time to get up before freshet. We also have a cutthroat update…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 26, 2024

OUTLOOK  We are going to see some weather this weekend and it could be a good thing for the end of the spring river fishing season. We are watching water levels bump up as we write the report and, for many of the systems, a little water is a good thing.   This week we have reports on the Harrison, the Capilano, and the Squamish plus some notes on the Chilliwack. The Harrison has been fishing well. More water could be an issue for access, but the reports this week were good and it is well worth a trip.  The Squamish is low and could really use the water and the Chilliwack is still fishing well but a reminder that regulations change on the 1st of…

OUTLOOK  We are coming to the end of April, and we are seeing some great spring weather. It will rain a little this weekend in the Lower Mainland, Saturday night into Sunday, but that is also a good thing as most of our rivers could use some water. With temperatures hitting 19 this weekend in the Valley and rising temperatures in the Interior it is go time for all of our fisheries!   In this week’s report, we have updates on the Interior lakes fishing. We have seen lakes under 4000 feet iced off and hatches have started on the lower elevation lakes. Jason has details in the lake section of the report.   We also have updates on the Chilliwack and the Squamish. We need more…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: April 12, 2024

OUTLOOK  We have very nice fishing weather this weekend with a mix of sun and cloud and mid teen temperatures.  It is a great time to be an angler in the Vancouver area for sure!  This week, we have updates on the Valley Rivers, Sea to Sky Rivers and Interior lakes fishing but it is also time to start looking at bass fishing, carp fishing, cutthroat fishing and even a little early salmon river fishing/scouting.   Jordan has a Capilano primer where we have heard of a coho or two, Eric has the cutthroat article and Gavin takes a quick look at bass fishing.  We just got our bass and carp sections restocked so if you’re heading out be sure to check out details below and…

OUTLOOK  We hope everyone enjoyed last weekend’s epic weather! This weekend looks a little less like patio weather and more like classic early Vancouver spring weather. We will see a mix of light rain and clouds with a little sun poking through. This should make for some great steelhead weather. Last week, we saw good reports across the board on this front. We also saw the chinook fishing pick up again. Last week, we saw things get challenged in the saltwater, but we have had solid trips south end of Bowen and across the strait. This is the last weekend to get out before regulation changes so make the most of it!   In this week’s report, we have river reports for the Chilliwack and Squamish…

OUTLOOK  There is a warm spell coming! It is just not coming this weekend. We are going to see some more wet reasonably cold weather over the weekend but next weekend, if the weather man is on his game, looks amazing with the first 16-degree days in the forecast!   We expect this weekend to be good because we need water on many of our local rivers and then next weekend should be worth marking on the calendar.   Right now, as we write the report, we are not seeing many salmon fry in the local systems and the water is low. This should change over the weekend and if the warm weather comes next weekend, we will see salmon fry out in force.   This week, we…
