Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: November 28th, 2014

Outlook It has been quite the week for wet weather here in Vancouver. The rivers are rising, and visions of steelhead are dancing in our heads! While some of us dream of winter steelhead soon to be arriving, others have been occupied with trout fishing and even some late salmon action. Although most rivers in the Lower Mainland are quite high, this weekend’s cold snap should bring them into shape quickly. Winter chinook fishing has yet to pick up in the local saltwater. The odd fish has been  caught, but things should improve over the next few weeks. This is a challenging yet rewarding fishery that is very close to home! We have an awesome selection of winter chinook spoons and flashers, so come by…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: November 21st, 2014

Outlook It seems as though we are finally back to “normal” Vancouver weather. Last week’s cold snap has made way for mild and rainy weather. Friday’s rain will affect most of our Lower Mainland streams, although unlikely we may see them blow out for the weekend due to low freezing levels. Coho salmon season is winding down, but chrome fish can still be caught. Winter steelhead will start to trickle into the Chilliwack in the next few weeks, and it won’t be long until someone encounters one. It is time to start tying flies, leaders, jigs, and roe bags if you haven’t already!  Feature Product This week, I wanted to take a look at Simms jackets. In Vancouver we know how to have fun in…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: November 14th, 2014

Outlook It sure feels like winter here in Vancouver! Cold, clear days have the rivers dropping like a rock giving some awesome late season salmon fishing opportunities. The clear weather is forecasted to continued into next week with daytime temperatures warming slightly. The Squamish river is clearing up nicely, and fresh fish are still pouring in. The coho fishing in the Fraser Valley is tapering off, but chrome fish are still being caught in most rivers. Coho fishing should last until the end of November and then it is on to winter trout and steelhead fishing! We are also looking forward to winter chinook fishing in our local waters which will pick up over the next month or so. Crabbing and prawning will also improve…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: November 7th, 2014

Outlook Another week of wet weather is coming to a close, and we are very excited by the prospect of clear skies, cold mornings, and dropping rivers. With next to no rain in the forecast for this coming week, we should finally see our local rivers stay in shape for more than a few hours! River fishing for coho fishing has been solid when conditions allow, and it should continue for the next couple of weeks. Winter chinook fishing in our local waters is just around the corner, and we should hear the first reports over the next month.  Feature Product Simms Freestone Waders: Toray vs Gore-Tex The Simms Freestone Wader is the most affordable wader offered by Simms, however, the quality is far from…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: October 31st, 2014

Outlook Another wet and wild weekend of fishing is upon us here in the Lower Mainland. Most of our rivers have been in and out of shape all week, and we are hoping for more stable conditions in the near future. Coho fishing in the Fraser Valley has been good when the conditions allow. Although the fishing has been for the most part less than exciting, we have received some cool new products to keep us occupied in the meantime. We now have the full selection of OPST Dotted Intruder Drabs for all of your fall and winter steelhead patterns. We are also stocking OPST Pure Skagit Lazar Running Line in 30lb, 40lb, and 50lb. We are in the grips of fall rain and winter…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: October 24th, 2014

Outlook We have seen some adverse weather this past week, and it looks like this theme will continue for some time. Up until the mass blow-out of the rivers across the lower mainland, the fall salmon fishing was quite good. There won’t be much in the way of fishing opportunities until the weather dries up and the raging waters subside. This is a great time to stock the fly boxes, shine your spinners, and tie leaders. When the rain subsides, we suggest you call in sick, drop the kids off at daycare, and set your alarms for zero dark thirty. We should be in for one heck of a November coho season! In other news, we just received a shipment of the new Cleardrift “sleeker”…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: October 17th, 2014

Outlook We are finally experiencing consistent rainfall here in the Lower Mainland. Most of our rivers are flowing high and more rain is on the way. We may see the rivers blow out from the rain scheduled for the start of the weekend. As long as the clarity does not degrade too much, fishing on the Chilliwack should be excellent all week. Unfortunately for the Squamish system, the cold weather is still a ways off and the water will likely remain silty until it arrives. Interior lakes are always an option if you are looking to get out of the city. The next few weeks should offer some excellent still-water opportunities in Merrittt and Kamloops, as well as the Cariboo region. Saltwater fishing is still…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: October 10th, 2014

Outlook The fall salmon season is in full swing in the Fraser Valley. Although the Chilliwack is low and clear, it has been producing some beautiful coho and chinook. The other Fraser tributaries should have some coho and chum milling about. With rain in the forecast for the weekend and early next week, we should see rivers rise and the fishing improve greatly. There is a good chance that many rivers will blow out, but once they come back into shape, it should be some of the best salmon fishing of the season. The Squamish system is still not quite there as the weather has stayed unseasonably warm making the water clarity extremely poor. Fall lake fishing is always an option if you are willing…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: October 3rd, 2014

Outlook It has been a beautiful start to Autumn here in the Lower Mainland. The rain earlier in the week has made way for blue bird skies and cold crisp mornings. Freshwater salmon season is upon us, and some rivers are already fishing well. While some of the rivers in the Fraser Valley are already producing fish, the Sea-to-Sky corridor has not quite started yet. Be prepared for clear water conditions as the dry and colder weather persists. Lake reports have been mixed. We have heard good reports from the Cariboo region and slow reports from Merrit over the past week. Saltwater fishing has been on and off, but overall, it has been quite good. The mouth of the Capilano is still producing some nice…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: September 26th

Outlook We are extremely excited about the weather this week. The heavy rain degraded the clarity on a number of our local rivers during the mid week down pour. The water should be running clear by the weekend on most streams in the Fraser Valley. We still consider it early for the Squamish system which will need cold weather to drop back down into fishing shape. The blast of rain run-off should help to kick off salmon fishing in the Chilliwack, Harrison and Stave systems. Watch the river levels and check out the river reports below for more details. Andre has brought in his first batch of fall coho patterns and they are already flying off the board! Saltwater anglers, have no fear! The Capilano…
