Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: September 19th, 2014

Outlook Looks like fall has arrived and with it the beginning of some of our favorite fisheries! Saturday and Sunday may be the last summer weather of the year and we hope that the rainy forecast for next week is correct. The drizzle on Wednesday and Thursday did not do much to change river levels, and the weekend should be another low and clear affair. We have heard some reports on the Chilliwack and though the river needs rain, the salmon are on their way. We just received a huge selection of custom spinners and spoons for the fall salmon fishing season. For the fly fishermen, we also have a great selection of coho and chum salmon patterns for all of the local salmon rivers….

Outlook It’s time to start thinking about salmon river fishing gear! And we don’t mean leader savers, bouncing betties and braided line. We are talking floats, spoons and flies for coho, chum and chinook! We are starting to hear the first reports of fish in the Fraser tributaries, and though it is still early, the Squamish system will start as soon as we see some cool weather. Jason and Matt are pumping out orders everyday to stock up for the fall and we are seeing some cool new arrivals. We have all the good colours of trout beads for our upcoming fall trout season in the local rivers. Our fly selection just got a much needed boost with a bunch of steelhead, bull trout, and…

Outlook The third annual Labour Day Chinook Classic was a success again this year. A big thank you to all our volunteers and congratulations to all our winners! The winning catch was 26.58 lbs which sent Graydon Harris and team home with $25,000. It was a great day on the water raising awareness and funds for Capilano Little Ones School and the Pacific Salmon Foundation. We’ll see you all in 2015. Sockeye fishing is still fairly productive in both fresh and saltwater. The PA Staff took to the North Arm on Monday for a little sockeye action. We hit a few good flurries of sockeye bites in the morning, and later tried for some chinook off T-10. We missed a few good bites, and to…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: August 29th, 2014

Outlook On Wednesday, Jason and Max hosted Breakfast Television out on the saltwater and had an awesome time showing the crew and viewers how to hook sockeye while promoting the Labor Day Chinook Classic. If you missed the show check out this link. The sounder was black with fish and they literally couldn’t get the lines in the water without hooking sockeye! On the freshwater front, things are looking pretty good. Trout fishing on the Skagit and Thompson is still worth the time. Fall salmon fishing is very close and the weekend rains may bring a few coho and chinook into the Capilano and the Chilliwack. A little bit of rain and overcast skies could make for some awesome fishing. In short, brace yourselves for…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: August 22nd, 2014

Outlook The sun is coming back! We had a mixed bag of wind, clouds and sun this last week but that looks like it will be changing with 5-7 days of good weather ahead! This should make for a great fishing weekend. The big question is, where to go? We have some options for you, so keep reading! Sockeye fishing in the ocean has still not seen it’s peak, and though a few days of unsettled weather made fishing difficult, for the most part boats are limiting out and having a lot of fun with the millions of fish staging off the Fraser. Bar fishing on the Fraser has been producing well for chinook and bottom bouncing has been consistent for the sockeye. The trout…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: August 15th, 2014

Outlook The first unsettled weather in over a month rolled through the Lower Mainland this week.  With it came some interesting fishing conditions. The sockeye are rolling into the Fraser in good numbers and most of our charters hit it out of the park. The sockeye bite has still been hit and miss to totally on fire, and some days it has been totally off. On Thursday the morning boats limited out with relative ease only to see no fish in the same waters in the afternoon. Some are blaming the weather, bananas, but most fingers are pointing at the pod of hungry Orcas. For those who did well, congratulations. For those who had a tough time, don’t give up. Millions of fish are still…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: August 8th, 2014

Outlook This is one of the most exciting times of the year! The sockeye madness has started! They showed up in around the north arm late this week and we are hearing reports of boats hooking five to forty fish in an outing! The amazing thing is that this is the tip of the iceberg. There are millions more coming! We recommend that everyone gets sockeye gear now! With such high numbers of fish, hot lures and terminal gear will run out and may not be available in the late season. The Fraser bottom bouncing fishery is also doing well and is just getting started. Check out the salt water and river reports for more details. Besides the sockeye we have a number of other…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: August 1st, 2014

Outlook It is an exciting time to be a salmon angler in the Lower Mainland! Coho fishing off West Vancouver has picked up again after last week’s rain. The tides are looking good next week for beach fishing and the Capilano River is back to being dirt low. Chinook fishing in the Fraser turned off last weekend while the water was dirty, but it should have picked up again as the water cleaned up this week. We are finally seeing the right flows in the Skagit and with that has come some great reports. With nothing but hot sun in the forecast for the next week, the aforementioned trends should only continue. The highly anticipated tidal sockeye salmon opening has been announced! Opening day will…

Pacific Angler’s Friday Fishing Report: July 25th, 2014

Outlook A wet Wednesday and Thursday is going to make for an interesting weekend. A number of rivers are on the rise with the rain. They opened the Cleveland Dam early Thursday morning, raising the water level on the Capilano. The Chilliwack, Skagit and Fraser Rivers all responded to the rainfall quite quickly. Last week we got some awesome info about water levels on the Skagit and if you are planning a trip it is a very good warning and something to take into consideration (see report below). Depending on how high these rivers get, they could come into shape before the weekend is over, making for some great fishing opportunities. As we all know a bump in water levels will bring in fresh fish…
