Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: March 2, 2018

OUTLOOK Welcome to another edition of the Friday Fishing Report. Though the weather was a mixed bag of snow rain and sun it was not as cold as was predicted last week. The weather gods must have heard us ranting about the cold in last week’s report and decided to prove us wrong. Though it was not warm by any stretch of the imagination the cold clear conditions didn’t happen and the fishing was better than expected. The mix of rain and clear days didn’t affect river levels too much and though it was clear on the Squamish, Stave and Vedder the fishing was good. It looks as though the slightly cool temps with a mix of precipitation will carry into next week. We have…

OUTLOOK Wow it is cold out! Just a little warning we are going to say the word “cold” a lot in this outlook. I am getting shivers just writing it. The cold doesn’t have to ruin the fishing and we have seen some nice sun this past week which made for some great days on the water. Over the next 10 days we will see more below average seasonal temps. This week we are getting a mixed bag of cold sunny weather and cold snowy weather. This Saturday and Sunday are actually going to be the warmest of the next 7 days. So if you want to get out look at Saturday and Sunday. Though some of the fisheries have been a challenge because of…

OUTLOOK We are hitting the middle of our winter season. During this time of year cold sunny days can be a challenge for the river fisherman. We will be talking about how these conditions have affected the rivers. Next week looks as though it will be back to cold clear weather but some rain is coming today and tomorrow. We expect good things for the next 48 hours and then it will probably slow Sunday as the temps drop. Jordan was out on the Squamish Wednesday and though they struggled with the cold low water they did find fish. Matt was also out last week and got luckier with the conditions. Both of the guys found fish and in the Squamish report we will look…

Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report: February 9, 2018

OUTLOOK We are going to throw something different at you in this edition of the report. As always we will look at all the popular fisheries but this week we are toying with a new fishery. It is an interesting one that ties into the lifeblood of our local oceans. We are going to look at sports fishing for herring. This is a fishery that is in it prime right now and though we are not experts in it, we have taken some interest and there is a ton of room for innovation as the fishery is relatively untapped. During this time of year good numbers of herring can be found close to shore and Dustin has a full write up below on how you…

OUTLOOK This week we are watching the weather and the seemingly constant rain. Surprisingly enough the colder weather has helped the rivers settle in the last 2 days. We are optimistic about the weekend and in a number of cases we are more concerned about clear water making things challenging. The Capilano went to near flood levels this week. We had solid reports before the jump in water and we are expecting good fishing when it drops. Check out this week’s Capilano report for more information. The Squamish was high but dropped nicely early in the week due to cold temps. We were out on the weekend and the water was actually quite clear. This made things tough. Matt has a full report of what…

OUTLOOK Welcome to another edition of the Friday Fishing Report. The big news this week is that we were a little off on our predictions last week.  We are sorry – you can send any hate mail to weRsorry@pacificangler.ca we promise to respond with a longwinded heartfelt apology. What happened? The storm was pretty intense; the wind blew away a majority of the forecasted precipitation. Rivers did rise and in some instances blew out but not as badly as we thought. Monday and Tuesday were good days to be out on the rivers and we have a number of reports from the Capilano, Vedder and Squamish. Take a look at them in the river section of the report. Obviously with the storm, the saltwater fishing…

OUTLOOK Good morning everyone and welcome to another edition of the Friday Fishing Report. Today we are watching a sizable storm that is hitting the Lower Mainland. This is going to throw off a number of possible fishing plans but as always with coastal storms watching the weather and timing river levels for a drop or just before a blowout will offer next level fishing. The storm is going to affect our rivers a little differently. The Squamish Valley will probably get hit the hardest. On Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday the river coloured up more than we expected from the recorded river level numbers. Jordan was planning to get out Wednesday but he held off. With more rain in the forecast we expect the river…

OUTLOOK Welcome to another episode of the famous Friday Fishing Report! This week is a good one. We have a bunch of cool content for you and some good updates from the local fisheries. If you guys are getting out fly fishing for steelhead or are preparing to get out, we have just released a great video with Fishing with Rod called Dissecting a Steelheader’s Fly Box. It goes over the concepts that Matt uses to choose flies for steelhead fishing and you get a peek inside his fly box. Check it out here. On a product front it is that time of year again when many of us are escaping the cold and heading down south. We just got a big shipment of warm…

OUTLOOK Happy new year everyone and we hope 2018 will be a good one on both the life front and the fishing front. Most of us are getting back the grind after some time off over Christmas but if you are looking to get out for some peace and quiet after the busy holiday season there are a number of fisheries that are fishing really well right now. First off is the Vedder steelhead fishery. Though numbers from the derby were poor, we have heard of a number of fish this week and it is worth getting out. We have more info on this in the Vedder River report section. The Squamish is also still producing positive bulltrout reports. A number of friends and customers…

OUTLOOK Another year is winding to an end and with it another year of fishing reports. It is crazy that we have been writing this report for nearly 10 years. There may have been late reports along the way but we have not missed a week in all this time. We thank everyone who has supported the report, helped with info and sent in pictures. We could not have done it without you. It has been a fantastic year for Pacific Angler. We have brought on new staff, expanded our guide fleet and have partnered with a number of our suppliers to reshape the shop into something we are all very proud of. We have seen some excellent fishing this season were we all had…
