Friday Fishing Report Sept 07

Pacific Angler Outlook September is Here! We had an awesome August and with rivers hitting perfect levels, lake country cooling off, Fraser salmon moving through the bay and the Skeena reporting amazing numbers we are looking forward to the fishing this month. Last weekend we hosted the first annual Labor Day Chinook Classic and the event was a huge successes. We will admit that after day one we were thinking about re naming the weekend the Labor Day Chinook Challenge because 30 minuets before the opening gunshot a pod of killer whales moved through the harbor. All experienced fisherman know what that means. Though a few fish were hooked we did not have a legal fish entered after the first day of competition. In hindsight…

Friday Fishing Report August 31st

Pacific Angler Outlook Wow, August flew by fast! It was a great month for fishing across the Lower Mainland. With great runs of salmon in the saltwater and Fraser River, great trout fishing when the water finally dropped on the Skagit and Thompson,  and stunning early numbers from the Skeena Watershed, we are eagerly awaiting September. The Labour Day Chinook Classic Starts Tomorrow! We have seen a great response and strong turn out but there are still spots available.  If you don’t want to go for the 2 day event the daily jackpot is only $250 per day per boat. The biggest fish each day is going to take home big cash prizes. If you are planning on fishing this weekend it would be a…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, August 24 2012

Pacific Angler Outlook: When things are slow it can be tough to write this report but this week we are having no problem finding great reports. Fisheries have been producing well across the province.  Primarily the local saltwater fisheries for Chinook and coho salmon and river fisheries for Chinook and trout have been producing best. Ocean fishing was, for a better word “on fire” with Chinook coming through in big waves. This is peak migration time for this fishery and we have heard lots of big fish staging off the mouth of the Fraser River.  Things were a bit slower over the past couple of days but we expect the fishing will turn on again when another wave of Chinooks shows up off the mouth…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, August 17th 2012

Pacific Angler Outlook: Welcome to the Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report.  The staff at Pacific Angler is proud to be your source for fishing information throughout British Columbia. It looks like we are in for another great week of weather with temperatures in the low 20s. Fishing has been solid on a number of systems and we are seeing better fishing in the salt chuck. Things just picked up off Bell Buoy, Spanish Banks and towards the mouth of the Fraser for Chinook. We expect this fishery to improve over the next 2 weeks and last well into September. Peek migration of Fraser Chinook is predicted for some time in the next 2-3 weeks and with good numbers already in the Fraser this bodes well…

The Cuba Report, 2012

This March the Pacific Angler Team travelled to the remote Northeast coast of Cuba to the world class flats destination of Cayo Cruz.  Here is the report on a truly fabulous trip. Paradise in the Middle of No-Where Cayo Cruz is located Southeast of Cayo Coco in the remote province of Camaguey. It is a stunning yet rugged land and only in the last 3-4 years have tourists (mostly fisherman) been traveling to the area. You will hear many people say that when you travel to Cuba it is like stepping into a time machine and rolling back the dial 50 years. In Cayo Cruz you will need to add a few more decades to the dial. Horse drawn carts are as common as cars,  …

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, August 10 2012

Pacific Angler Outlook Welcome to the Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report.  The staff at Pacific Angler is proud to be your source for fishing information throughout British Columbia. Last week we spoke of the heat winning the battle against the large snow pack. Though the war is still raging the heat is winning the battle.  The Fraser River has dropped to a good fishing level while the Vedder, Skagit, Thompson Rivers and many have started to fish well.  While we can expect some amazing river fishing throughout August the lake fishing scene is quite slow due to the warm weather (which is typical for August).  For the adventurous angler willing to hike into high alpine lakes there are some good opportunities. Out in the salt…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, August 3 2012

Pacific Angler Outlook: With any luck Mother Nature is about to catch up with summer and give us conditions conducive to better fishing. British Columbia is still recovering from an above average snow pack and a nonexistent spring.  However, there are a few fisheries benefitting from a late summer.  The Pacific Angler staff is expecting August to be a great month to be on the water. A beautiful rainbow caught in an unknown river. The Environment Canada forecast for the Vancouver area is calling for sunny conditions with daily high temperatures ranging from 23 to 27 degrees Celsius.  Yeah, it is going to be an amazing weekend to be on the water, and plus it is a long weekend! The story for this week is…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, July 27 2012

Pacific Angler Outlook:  Welcome to the Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report.  It is hard to believe we are already at the very end of July and looking straight down the barrel of August.  For the fisherman August is a great month to spend time on the water.  While lake fishing for the most part slows down, river fishing for trout and salmon and fishing in the saltwater for salmon really picks up. Vancouver and the interior has seen another warm week.  This has caused lake fishing to slow down with fish now holding in the deeper water. In the last few days the saltwater has picked up a little with fish being taken by Howe Sound and along the West Vancouver shoreline. We expect things…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, July 20 2012

Pacific Angler Outlook:  Welcome to the Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report.  The staff at Pacific Angler is proud to be your source for British Columbia fishing information. The relatively hot temperatures for the last 2 weeks have slowed down the lake fishing across the province. While the heat has helped river levels drop (by melting snowpack) we are not at optimal levels for the majority of rivers within the lower mainland.  Never fear, many great fishing opportunities are still abound and many more are just around the corner. This weekend the forecast is calling for temperatures to drop with the possibility of rain and risk of thunderstorms this morning, cloudy conditions on Saturday and then a return to showers on Sunday.  The daily temperature high…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, July 13

Pacific Angler Outlook Grab your sunglasses, sunscreen and fishing rods! Another awesome week of weather is coming! Temperatures are going to creep up to mid 20s in Vancouver, and jump into the 30s up in Kamloops! Check out the Vancouver and Kamloops forecasts. With the warm weather, local coastal rivers affected by snowmelt have risen over the past week. I expect the systems affected by snowmelt will level off over the next week and then drop back into shape by the end of July or beginning of August. Fishing in “Lake Country” this weekend should still produce some good results. I am heading up to the Bonaparte area this weekend to the Skitchine Lodge.  Although this is considered late for lakes in this area we…
