Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, January 13th

Pacific Angler Outlook:  Well, last weekend there was a good push of fish that came on the high water.  The staff heard of anglers hooking up into not only several fish but also some big ones.  At the beginning of this past week the air temperature dropped significantly.  On Sunday the temperature was floating around 5 & 6 degrees Celsius.  When I woke up on Monday morning to head to the shop there was a thick frost on the windshield. The drop in air temperature has not only dropped the water levels but also the water temperature, making the fish less aggressive.  Over the weekend fishermen were getting fish on larger presentations.  This weekend we expect fishermen to hook up with lighter presentations. Vancouver is…

Local Winter Steelhead & Chinook Update

I was able to get out steelheading on the local rivers recently and found some fish!  The rivers were all pretty high this weekend but most of them had good clarity and there are lots of fresh steelhead coming in!  Many of our customers reported good steelhead action over the weekend and on Monday.  Here is one of several chrome steelhead we hooked up over the last couple of days in the high water. A fresh steelhead buck caught in high water The rivers are all dropping right now, and if you are lucky enough to have the chance to head out mid week, you are going to have some good fishing.  Later in the week it looks like we are in for some more…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, January 6

Pacific Angler Outlook: Well, this report is starting to sound a bit like a broken record but I’ll say it again, the steelhead have arrived.  This is the time of year that the entire staff is on their toes waiting for the latest steelhead report, keeping an eye on those water levels, tides, and whatever data we can get our hands on.  Our customers have had some good success on the tributaries of the Fraser Valley, both on fly and gear.  If you read the report from last Friday, you will remember we said to watch the river levels and expect a drop in the riverws on Sunday and some fresh fish around.  Well one of our customers, Andrew, did just that and headed out…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, December 30

Pacific Angler Outlook: Welcome to the Pacific Angler Fishing Report for the last Friday of the year.  It is hard to believe how fast this past year went.  Vancouver experienced another great salmon season in 2011 with strong pink, sockeye, chinook and coho returns.  We are hoping the steelhead returns this winter will mirror the excellent salmon returns of 2011. Chris with a nice coho from this fall. We received some heavy rainfall the last couple of days and as such we’ve heard reports that the Chilliwack River is blown out and will probably stay blown out (around a foot of vis) until sometime on Sunday.   The short term Vancouver forecast is sun with a few clouds, no precipitation and a high of 5…

Christmas Steelhead

Well it is officially steelhead season here at Pacific Angler!  After working two weeks straight prior to Christmas, I was able to sneak off for a few hours Christmas afternoon  as the family festivities were winding down. A few casts with a Sage 3113MB and an old Hardy Super Silex and this chrome doe had a Christmas pink worm dinner!  It doesn’t get any better than that! With the rain forecast this week, expect more fresh steelhead to enter the rivers.  Winter chinook fishing usually picks up this week as well, so I expect to hear some good reports soon on the rivers and in the ocean. DON’T FORGET WE HAVE A HUGE SALE ON THIS WEEK!  10%-75% OFF! If you need anything from rods,…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, Dec 23

Pacific Angler Outlook: Well, Christmas is just around the corner and it looks like it is going to be a wet one.  Most anglers will be hoping for that centerpin reel or rod underneath the Christmas tree on Sunday.  Well, if you have some free time try to get out on the water on Christmas day. There are definitely some steelhead out there to be caught. Over the weekend you should expect a high ranging from 5 to 7 degrees celsius with precipitation starting on Friday and then carrying on until almost New Years.  The level of daily precipitation on the weekend ranges from 5mm to 30mm, so the rivers should remain at a healthy level. On December 24th we will be getting a new…

Vancouver Friday Fishing Report, December 16th

Pacific Angler Outlook: Well, it finally looks like there will be some rain in the forecast.  After a very cold week it is nice to see some warmer temperatures as well. On Friday the weatherman is calling for a bit of drizzle (< 1mm prec.) with a high of 6 degrees celsuis.  Saturday you’ll see a bit more precipitation (60%, 1 to 3 mm) and then on Sunday a mixture of sun and cloud with less than 1 mm of total precipitation. If you look further into the forecast the weatherman is calling for 90% precipitation (10 to 15 mm) on Monday.  This is all good news for the steelheader!  The full moon is coming and with big tides this week, we expect good numbers…

Friday Fishing Report, Dec 9

Pacific Angler Outlook: December is the month of the beginning of the winter steelhead season.  Some systems will receive a few late runs of coho and chum but for the most part salmon fishing is done for the year. Steelhead isn’t the only thing that will pull on the end of your line this time of year.  The cutthroat fishing has started to pick up and should continue to be good well into the spring and through the spring fry emergence. The weatherman is calling for 60% chance of showers on Saturday with a high of 5 degrees celsius.  Sun and blue skies are then called for Sunday with a high of 4 degrees celsius.  And that is the forecast for Vancouver so you know…

Friday Fishing Report: December 2nd

The rivers are dropping!!  We will not lie, its going to be cold, the rivers will be low and clear but there are fish around.  This is prime-time for fishing egg patterns and flesh flies for hungry trout and char and there are still some fresh coho coming into our local rivers! After the record rainfalls last weekend, the river levels dropped and we have had beautiful sunny days all week and continuing into the weekend. This is good for the many people in Vancouver going through sun withdrawal but not good for the fishermen.  Low and clear conditions means smaller flies, lighter tippet, and longer leaders.  Fluorocarbon will be your friend. If you are still coho fishing, a good bump of fish came in…
