It looks like we are in for another great week of weather with temperatures in the low 20s. Fishing has been solid on a number of systems and we are seeing better fishing in the salt chuck. Things just picked up off Bell Buoy, Spanish Banks and towards the mouth of the Fraser for Chinook. We expect this fishery to improve over the next 2 weeks and last well into September. Peek migration of Fraser Chinook is predicted for some time in the next 2-3 weeks and with good numbers already in the Fraser this bodes well…

Last week we spoke of the heat winning the battle against the large snow pack. Though the war is still raging the heat is winning the battle.  The Fraser River has dropped to a good fishing level while the Vedder, Skagit, Thompson Rivers and many have started to fish well.  While we can expect some amazing river fishing throughout August the lake fishing scene is quite slow due to the warm weather (which is typical for August).  For the adventurous angler willing to hike into high alpine lakes there are some good opportunities. British Columbia is still recovering from an above average snow pack and a nonexistent spring.  However, there are a few fisheries benefitting from a late summer.  The Pacific Angler staff is expecting August to be a great month to be on the water. Pacific Angler Outlook:  Welcome to the Pacific Angler Friday Fishing Report.  It is hard to believe we are already at the very end of July and looking straight down the barrel of August.  For the fisherman August is a great month to spend time on the water.  While lake fishing for the most part slows down, river fishing for trout and salmon and fishing in the saltwater for salmon really picks up. Vancouver and the interior has seen another warm week.  This has caused lake fishing to slow down with fish now holding in the deeper water. The relatively hot temperatures for the last 2 weeks have slowed down the lake fishing across the province. While the heat has helped river levels drop (by melting snowpack) we are not at optimal levels for the majority of rivers within the lower mainland.  Never fear, many great fishing opportunities are still abound and many more are just around the corner. Pacific Angler Outlook Grab your sunglasses, sunscreen and fishing rods! Another awesome week of weather is coming! Temperatures are going to creep up to mid 20s in Vancouver, and jump into the 30s up in Kamloops! Check out the Vancouver and Kamloops forecasts. With the warm weather, local coastal rivers affected by snowmelt have risen over the past week. I expect the systems affected by snowmelt will level off over the next week and then drop back into shape by the end of July or beginning of August. Fishing in “Lake Country” this weekend should still produce some good results. Pacific Angler Outlook For all of you who have forgotten what a sunny day looks like… get ready! The forecast this week looks awesome! Sun, Sun and more Sun with temperatures hitting consistent 20s in Vancouver…FINALLY! With the warm weather we hope to see a more consistent snow melt and we expect a number of the local dams to hold back water to drop levels into fish-able ranges. This may slow the gear fishing on the Capilano River but it will help the fly fisherman on the river, the beach fishermen, and saltwater coho fishing off the mouth of the river. Pacific Angler Outlook It is mildly entertaining when we get excited about historically normal temperatures but with one of the coldest seasons on record, beggars can’t be choosers. For the next week we can expect mid to high teens and the interior is forecast for the first handful of hot summer days. For the long weekend be prepared for a few wet days. Monday temperatures will break the 20 degree mark locally and will almost reaching 30 degrees in Kamloops. This bodes well for the local and interior fishing scene. Pacific Angler Outlook The story for this week unfortunately has been the weather.  The week started off with a bang on Monday…beautiful sunny day with no clouds.  A tease it was, as the clouds and rains returned for the rest of the week. A lot of the reports have been quite similiar from the interior lake anglers.  Unstable weather with grey overcast skies and scattered showers.  While the weather has been poor we’ve actually heard of some good reports.  I’ll get into these in the lake fishing section.
